Strictly Come Dancing is back with just as much glitz and glam as ever before. The BBC One competition kicked off last week with fans officially introduced to this year’s celebrities and found out who their professional partners were going to be. One of them was none other than presenter Dan Walker who is more used to interviewing politicians on the iconic BBC Breakfast red sofa than busting a move on the dancefloor.
Dan Walker is probably best known as a journalist, newsreader and presenter, having worked on BBC Breakfast since 2016.
Prior to this, Dan was a host on Football Focus for a whopping 12 years and only left the role back in May.
He previously turned down the opportunity to star in Strictly but last year, Dan’s children convinced him to take the plunge.
Dan said: “This year, my kids had sat me down at Christmas and said, ‘We only really want you to do two programmes.
“We’d love you to do [children’s entertainment show] Saturday Mash-Up and, if you get asked again, can you do Strictly?’”

How tall is BBC Breakfast star Dan Walker?
Dan revealed on the launch show he was concerned he may not be any good because of his height.
He went on to explain he is a staggering 6ft 6in which shocked fans.
Strictly fan Roz Laws tweeted: “I had no idea Dan Walker was so tall. I suppose I’ve really only seen him sitting down.”
Emma G Hutchins also wrote:” 6ft 6? Dan Walker??? Damn, that breakfast sofa hides a lot but that is bloody tall.”
Dan has been partnered up with Ukrainian-Slovenian professional dancer Nadiya Bychkova.
She is a Slovenian Ballroom and Latin Champion and two-time World and European Champion in ’10’ Dance.
Nadiya joined the cast of Strictly back in 2017 and has been paired up with former EastEnders star Davood Ghadami, Blue singer Lee Ryan and footballer David James.
She stands at 1.72m which is the equivalent to around 5ft 7in.

When Dan and Nadiya first met, he questioned if he was a “terrible disappointment”.
Nadya laughed and told presenter Claudia Winkleman she was “very happy” to have him as a partner.
“Daniel is very worried he’s going to look like a daddy longlegs”, Nadiya explained.
But how will Dan get on when he first takes to the Strictly dancefloor.
Dan is hoping to be presented with the Glitter Ball trophy alongside his fellow celebrities.
He will be competing with the likes of comedian Robert Webb, social media influencer Tilly Ramsey, TV chef John Whaite, former EastEnders actress Nina Wadia and CBBC presenter Rhys Stephenson, to name a few.
So who is going to rise to rise to the occasion and who will feel the wrath of Craig Revel Horwood?
The first live show of Strictly Come Dancing will start on Saturday, September 25, at 7pm on BBC One.
