Sunday night’s Strictly Come Dancing results show saw Tilly Ramsay and Nikita Kuzmin go head to head with Rhys Stephenson and Nancy Xu. The dance duos found themselves in the bottom two after the public vote and had to compete in the dreaded dance off to keep their place in the competition. However, Strictly judge Craig Revel Horwood flagged a problem with one of the performances as he highlighted a wardrobe malfunction.

After landing in the bottom two, both couples had to perform their routines from Saturday night a second time.

Rhys and Nancy danced their emotional Waltz to You Light Up My Life by Whitney Houston.

Meanwhile, Tilly and Nikita performed their Samba to Dua Lipa’s pop track Levitating.

They fought hard to earn a place in next week’s quarter finals, however, only one couple could keep their place in the competition.

After watching the dancers perform again, the Strictly judges delivered their verdicts.

Craig was the first judge to comment on the routines and praised both couples.

However, he called out one performer for a wardrobe malfunction they suffered during their dance.

He began: “Well on Saturday night, I gave both couples seven, so in my head they are equal.

“The dance off proved that they both improved enormously, although one was quite flashy and semi-naked,” Craig remarked.

The judge was referencing the fact Nikita’s shirt came off during his energetic dance off performance.

After highlighting the wardrobe issue, Craig elected to save Rhys and Nancy.

Guest judge Cynthia Erivo also chose to save Rhys and Nancy, but insisted both couples had performed well.

“This is really, really difficult. Both couples did beautifully but it just came down to the tiny details like the finish of the footwork,” she said.

Anton Du Beke was the next judge to comment on the dance off performances and said both Rhys and Tilly did a “terrific” job.

He explained: “Tilly, as we’ve come to expect, put in a great performance. She’s an absolute fighter.

“But with slightly better technique and better quality, I’d like to save Rhys and Nancy.”

With three votes to Rhys and Nancy, it meant they had won the majority vote, and Tilly and Nikita would be leaving the competition.

After being eliminated, Tilly spoke about how much she’d enjoyed her time in the competition.

She began: “I’d just like to say a massive thank you to everyone who has made this an amazing, positive journey for me.

“From everyone here to backstage, wardrobe, make up and camera crew. It’s just been the most extraordinary time.

“I found out something about myself that I didn’t know I could do, I didn’t know I could dance and have fun like this.

“So a massive thank you and, obviously, a huge thank you to Nikita who has guided me out of my shell and has just made this the most amazing experience,” Tilly added.

The remaining couples will take to the dance floor in the Strictly Come Dancing quarter finals next weekend.

Strictly Come Dancing continues Saturday at 6:40pm on BBC One.
