Peaky Blinders fans love Cillian Murphy as the leader of the gang Tommy Shelby in the hit BBC drama. However, given the danger he tends to land himself in, some fans will be left worried his character might be killed off. Here’s what’s been revealed about the future for the head of the Peaky Blinders.
Will Tommy Shelby star Cillian Murphy ever leave Peaky Blinders?
Murphy’s portrayal of Tommy has been much-praised by audiences and critics alike over the past five seasons.
His turn as the troubled gang leader has won the Irish actor several awards as well.
Therefore, fans are understandably concerned about the future of his character, especially after the cliffhanger ending of season five.
Viewers will remember how this saw him hold a gun to his head before the screen cut to black.
So far, it seems clear he will be returning for season six of the show as the creators have begun discussing his return.
However, this moment was one in a long line of dangerous scenes for the beloved character.
Therefore, some fans are worried about Tommy’s end on the show coming soon.
Thankfully, it seems the mobster is not going anywhere just yet, according to creator and writer Steven Knight.
This is because Knight has confirmed he has Tommy’s story all mapped out.
The long-running gangster drama is planned to end with season seven and it seems like Tommy will have a big part to play in it.
He said in 2019: “When I write, it’s a bit like dreaming. I just start writing a scene, and I let the characters start talking to each other.
“Sometimes I read back what I’ve written and think, ‘Oh, that’s what he’s doing….’

“But I do have something in mind for Tommy in series seven, episode six.
“But I also have the freedom to get there any way I want. I can take the scenic byways, the tourist route…”
What’s more, it also seems star Murphy has no intention of leaving the show just yet either.
Speaking ahead of season four, the star opened up about his future on the series.
He said: “I’m filming the fourth [series] in September, which is set in the mid to late 1920s.
“And I know that Steve Knight is keen for Tommy to be seen as the first air-raid sirens go off for the Second World War.”
“I would embrace that as long as the writing stayed strong.”
Therefore, it does seem like fans should relax as Tommy seems to be safe on the show for now.
The only unknown at the moment is whether Murphy’s involvement in the story will continue after the show ends on the BBC.
Knight has previously spoken about a Peaky Blinders film but Murphy has not signed on for this yet.
When he was last asked about it in August 2019, he opened up about his reservations.
He said: “You’ll have to speak to Steven. That’s his baby. It would have to be a six-hour movie. It would have to be a standalone thing.”
Fans will just have to wait and see what’s next for the show and its characters.
Peaky Blinders seasons 1 to 5 are available to stream on Netflix now.
