The trailer for a new animated series about Prince George and the royal family has been lambasted for its satirical take on the youngster, with some people saying it’s ‘inappropriate’ and ‘disrespectful’.
At eight years old, Prince George is third in line to the throne, behind his father, Prince William, and his grandfather, Prince Charles.
In a new cartoon created by Family Guy writer Gary Janetti, viewers are offered an inside glimpse of the imagined inner workings of the royal family through the eyes of the oldest child of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.
However, following the release of the trailer, which features Prince George (voiced by Gary) asking for tea that ‘doesn’t taste like p**s’ and dubbing the Queen a ‘bad b***h’, several Twitter users have heavily criticised the portrayal of children in the series.
One person said it was ‘very bad taste HBO’, writing: ‘Leave children out of this. You could be subjecting real children to bullying and harassment all because of your greed.’
‘Disgusting. Exploiting a small boy to prop up a TV show and make money,’ another said.
‘No no no no. The adults of the royal family, fine do whatever you like I guess. But George & the other royal children should be off limits,’ someone else tweeted, adding that they could have ‘made up a royal family’ and imagined Family Guy’s Stewie Griffin as a prince instead.
‘Can’t children be safe? This work is offensive and not funny. Targeting children in media is abhorrent. Especially since they were previously bullied and you are facilitating it. It sucks and I will never watching it,’ another tweeted.
One social media user said the series was ‘inappropriate’ and ‘disrespectful’, saying that ‘children are all innocent and should be off limits’.
‘This should be pulled and never viewed. How can you in good conscience, let this happen?’ they asked.
In addition to Gary, The Prince features an all-star cast including Orlando Bloom as Prince Harry, Lucy Punch as the Duchess of Cambridge, Dan Stevens as Prince Charles and Sophie Turner as Princess Charlotte.
The Prince is produced by 20th Television Animation, with all 12 episodes being made available to watch on HBO Max.
