Call The Midwife has returned to BBC One and fans have been tuning in for season 10 on Sunday nights. The new season saw Trixie Franklin (played by Helen George) go on secondment at a private clinic. Fans believe she may end up in a relationship with widower Matthew Aylward (Olly Rix).

Will Trixie and Matthew Aylward end up together?

Season 10 of Call The Midwife started with Sister Julienne (Jenny Agutter) packing Trixie off to the Lady Emily hospital.

She hoped Trixie would be able to help secure much-needed funding for Nonnatus House by going on secondment for a few weeks.

Whilst she was there, she grew friendly with husband and wife – Fiona (Jo Herbert) and Matthew Aylward, who were expecting a baby.

Fiona gave birth to a healthy son and Trixie made sure Matthew played a part in the whole process.

They ended up developing a close relationship, but fans were confused when he and his wife returned to the clinic in the following episode.

In a devastating twist of events, Fiona was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukaemia shortly after giving birth.

Trixie and Mr Scarisbrick (Richard Dillane) did all they could to find a cure, but Fiona died, leaving baby Jonathan and Matthew behind.

On the day of Fiona’s funeral, Matthew found himself calling Trixie, feeling a need to confide in her.

During the emotional exchange, Trixie said it had been an honour to take care of Fiona and help their family grow.

Matthew was not seen again until the preview for the next episode, which showed Matthew asking for Trixie once more.

During a short clip, Matthew is seen calling Nonnatus House and asking for Nurse Franklin.

Trixie had answered the phone and confirmed it was indeed her speaking, but fans did not see how the conversation developed.

There are some viewers who believe Trixie and Matthew will form a romantic relationship this season.

Matthew had previously asked Trixie about her experience with blind dates, and there are already signs pointing to a possible relationship.

Trixie has provided plenty of support for Matthew and his baby son, and Matthew clearly sees her as a saviour.

Fans are hoping Trixie finds love in season 10 as she has never had much luck when it comes to relationships.

She has always found herself in complicated situations and has been the one to call things off on more than one occasion.

She may start to like Matthew but could feel guilty, believing she would be betraying Fiona.

Fans have taken to Twitter to share their thoughts, with one saying: “Trixie is definitely going to end up with the handsome widower. Next season she’ll be reading that letter to wee Matthew.”

Another said: “Trixie and Matthew are definitely going to end up together and honestly she deserves the world #callthemidwife”

Viewers are already looking forward to finding out why Matthew made the call to Nonnatus House.

Another fan said: “I’m sensing chemistry between Trixie and Matthew despite the situation #CallTheMidwife”

Matthew is in need of someone to support him during this difficult time, but he may start to feel confused over his feelings towards Trixie.

Viewers will be keen to find out whether Trixie shares similar feelings, or whether she will try to avoid an ‘inappropriate’ romance.

Another fan added: “Ooh anybody else think Trixie and Matthew will be married by the end of the series? They’d be perfect together and Fiona would approve #CallTheMidwife” [Sic]

Call The Midwife airs on Sundays on BBC One.
