One mistake arose when a Big Bang Theory fan re-watched the fifth episode of the very first season. The episode aired on CBS way back in 2007, but a fan has pointed out a massive blunder on the part of recurring character Leslie Winkle (played by Sara Gilbert).
Leslie was introduced as a potential love interest and occasional girlfriend of Leonard Hofstadter (Johnny Galecki).
Her intellect and scientific know-how rivals and exceeds some of the boys, and she is known for her consistent put downs of Sheldon’s (Jim Parsons) perceived ignorance.
Of course, relative to almost everyone else in the show Sheldon is a bona fide genius, but Leslie would frequently run circles around his scientific theory.
In a flirtatious scene with Leonard she references the fact that certain drugs can make pupils dilate just as much as physical retraction.

However, one fan took to Reddit to point out that her reference is not quite on the money.
They said: “Contrary to popular belief, heroin does not cause mydriasis, but in fact causes the exact opposite: miosis, or pinpoint pupils (for the layman).”
Heroin is actually an opiate, which causes pupils to constrict.
The Redditor continued: “The drug she was looking for would be cocaine. It causes dilated pupils.”
Of course, many fans took issue with pointing this out as a potential plot hole, as Leslie may not necessarily be well-versed in the side effects of heavy drug use.
One commented: “Her being wrong isn’t a plot hole.”
Another concurred and added: “The character is just ignorantly wrong. Sheldon is often wrong too.
“She’s a physicist and more than likely wouldn’t know a damned thing about biology or drugs.”

Although it wouldn’t be unreasonable to assume that one of the smartest characters on the show would at least have some general knowledge regarding the effects of opiates versus stimulants.
The group of drugs that does cause pupil dilation also includes caffeine, so it may have been possible that Leonard had just finished a very strong cup of coffee.
Episode five of the first season gets a pass for introducing some of the more iconic staples of the series.
For example, the episode features the first instance of Penny’s (Kayley Cuoco) employer The Cheesecake Factory.
It also introduces Leonard’s cello skills, an instrument that actor Johnny Galecki can actually play in real life.
Whether or not fans agree with the plot hole, the fact that devoted fans of the show are going back to discuss past episodes is a testament to the geeky sitcom’s longevity.
For those who want more, the prequel series Young Sheldon is currently airing on CBS.
The Big Bang Theory is streaming on Netflix now.
