BBC Breakfast presenter Charlie Stayt made a savage jibe at MP's furniture display in the room during a live interview on this morning's show (March 18).
The brutal swipe left co-host Naga Munchetty in hysterics but viewers were divided on social media.
During the show, Charlie asked Housing Secretary Robert Jenrick about his pledge to keep rough sleepers off the street.
The Tory MP said thousands of emergency accommodations remained open during the pandemic and there are about 11,000 homeless people today.
When the interview came to an end, Charlie decided to poke fun at the size of the Union Jack flag in the room.
The host said: "Robert Jenerick, thank you. I think your flag is not up to standard size government interview measurement.
"Just a little bit small but that is your apartment really."
The MP put up an embarrassed grin in front of the camera and Naga was heard giggling in the background.
Charlie added: "You will be aware that every time, we've seen every day that there is always a flag. It is a thing isn't it?"
Naga, trying to catch her breath, said: "It's just a flag. There is a picture of the Queen though, in the Westminster office I'm assuming."
Viewers were stunned at Charlie's joke and took to Twitter to share their thoughts.
One said: "The end of this interview was awkward – Charlie’s comment about the flag was just flat and poorly delivered."

Another penned: "Charlie Stayt just rudely mocked Robert Jenerick’s Union Jack flag and Naga couldn’t wait to get in and snigger about his portrait of the Queen.
But some praised for Charlie's comment and teased at Naga's infectious laughter.
"Charlie Charlie pulls a cracker mentioning Jenrick's flag being too small Thought Naga was going to lay an egg," a viewer wrote.
A second chimed in: "Great flag shame Charlie. TV gold. 'Your flag is not up to standard', did you get the pun Naga?"
