Bafta nominations: Joker and The Irishman go head to head with Margot Robbie nominated TWICE in the same category – The Sun
THE British Academy have announced their 2019 BAFTA nominations, with Joker and The Irishman going head to head.
Todd Phillips' psychological thriller leads the way with 11, closely followed by The Irishman and Once Upon a Time in Hollywood on 10 and Sam Mendes' 1917 just behind with nine.
Australian actress Margot Robbie is set to compete against herself in the best supporting actress category, nominated for both Bombshell and Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.
She is also joined by nominated actress' Laura Dern, Scarlett Johansson and Florence Pugh.
While Leonardo Dicaprio, Taron Egerton and Joaquin Phoenix are among the stars nominated in the leading actor category.
The nominations were unveiled on Tuesday morning in London.
Sex Education star Asa Butterfield and Charlie's Angels star Ella Balinska were on hand to read out the shortlists.
The ceremony itself will take place on February 2 at the Royal Albert Hall.
TV presenter Graham Norton will take over from Joanna Lumley as presenter of the Baftas, which is now into its 73rd year.
The awards show will broadcast live on YouTube and Bafta’s Facebook page.
Period black comedy film The Favourite dominated the Baftas in 2019, collecting seven awards.
