Ashley Cain's girlfriend Safiyya says baby Azaylia 'taught me the meaning of life' before tragic death at eight months

ASHLEY Cain's girlfriend Safiyya said their baby daughter Azaylia taught her the meaning of life.

The eight-month-old died on Saturday from a rare form of leukaemia.

During her short life Azaylia made a huge impact on many people, but none more so than on her loving parents.

Writing on Instagram last night, Safiyya thanks fans for their love and support, and admitted dealing with her grief is becoming increasingly hard.

She posted: "I would like to take a moment out of my day to thank each and everyone of you for your heartfelt messages, amazing videos that you have created for us, poems, candles that have been lit, balloons, music, flowers, etc."

"It's so beautiful Everyday is getting harder but Azaylia taught me strength, and courage which she held 100 per cent now I need to make her proud and do the same. I no your looking down on me.

"A special thankyou to beautiful Azaylia for teaching all of us the true meaning of life. I'm honoured to be your mummy. Enjoy paradise baby & your new angel wings. Na night baba [love heart emojis]."

Following Azaylia's death, the family's supports have flooded her GoFundMe with donations.

Ashley and Safiyya initially set up the online fundraiser to get their terminally ill daughter to Singapore for treatment.

The couple managed to raise over £1 million in less than 24 hours, but the trip was cancelled when doctors said that her disease was too rare to treat.

A month on from its launch, the page now has 115,200 donors and has raised £1,598,840.

One fan wrote on there: "I can't even imagine what you are you are going through. But God bless."

Another said: "Sweet Dreams Beautiful Girl! You have inspired millions of people with your strength and courage! You fought till the end baby girl! Now it's time to rest! Have fun with the Angels Azaylia xxx."

A third added: "Rest now little lady your fight and beautiful little face was an inspiration to us all."

Ashley – who shot to fame on the first series of Ex on the Beach in 2016 – took to Instagram to announce Azaylia's death.

Alongside a picture of him holding his baby girl, he wrote: "Rest in paradise princess. I will always hold you in my heart until I can hold you again in heaven."

Safiyya added: "You are my Angel my heartbeat my soul, RIP my precious baby, you will always be with me like a handprint on my heart."

Two months after Azaylia was born in August 2020 she was diagnosed with leukaemia.

The couple kept fans up to date with their daughter's condition throughout her battle.

Her health started to deteriorate and on April 8 and Ashley revealed in a heartbreaking Instagram video that his little girl could only have "days to live".

They decided to take eight-month old Azaylia home from hospital to enjoy the remaining time they had with her.

Today Ashley credited his daughter Azaylia with "saving my life" in a heartbreaking tribute following her death.

He opened up about his grief in a moving post as he vowed to keep her legacy alive, explaining how she had made him a better man.

Sharing a picture of him holding her hand, he wrote: "My heart is shattered 💔.

"You gave my life purpose, my face a smile, filled my heart with love and my soul with pride.

Ashley continued: "You made me a better man. You made me the person I’ve always wanted to be. You’ve taught me more in your 8 months than I’ve learned my whole life.

"I don’t know why you’ve been taken away from me and my heart aches in your absence."

The star went on to make a series of promises to his daughter.

"But I promise you that your name with live on. I will carry your name across every ocean, along every road, to the top of every mountain and across the whole globe," he wrote.

"Your name will live, your legacy will be remembered and I will seek peace in living as your vessel to continue inspiring, giving strength, spreading joy and saving "

He continued: "You saved my life, you really did. With my second chance, I make a promise to you that I will make yours live on in our hearts, our thoughts and our prayers.

"I am blessed, I am honoured and I am privileged to be your father. I would go through all of the pain again and again. Because what you gave me in those 8 months will live with me for eternity."

He then quoted the lyrics from The Jungle Book song 'I want to be like you', which is a tune both he and Safiyya often sang for Azaylia.
