Adam Woodyatt not wimp like Ian as Tamzin Outhwaite backs him on Im A Celeb

EastEnders star Tamzin Outhwaite is backing her former co-star Adam Woodyatt on I’m A Celeb, saying he’s “not a wimp like Ian Beale” – his character in the British soap.

The 51-year-old star, who played Mel Owen in the BBC show, spoke exclusively to the Daily Star at Together For Short Lives charity event, ahead of his appearance on the gruelling reality series.

She revealed: “Yes I will be watching. The kids love it. I will be voting for him to do the trials. He will do well. He’s not a wimp not like his character!”

Many viewers of the show have said they want to see Woodyatt get his hands dirty in the show's often gruesome challenges.

This includes one EastEnders fan, who said: "I think we should vote Adam Woodyatt or Danny Miller for every single trial."

Another Twitter user said: "I can't wait to see Ian Beale (Adam Woodyatt) eat kangaroo testicles."

The 53-year-old will face his fears at Gwrych Castle when the ITV show returns in just over two weeks’ time.

Rumours have been circulating that the veteran soap actor will leave his iconic role in EastEnders after his stint in the jungle, as he’s desperate to pursue other parts in telly.

"He’s excited by the prospect of showing the nation who the real Adam Woodyatt is," a source told The Sun.

Speaking to Alex Jones and Ronan Keating on The One Show in May about his return to EastEnders, Adam – who is currently starring in theatre production Looking Good Dead – said: “I don’t know, that’s the honest answer."

EastEnders fans have been missing the wiry businessman that is Ian Beale on the show of late.

Woodyatt has been in EastEnders since it first started in 1985, causing mischief and generally getting on his neighbours' nerves.

Ian left the square at the start of the year after finding out that his best friend and wife Sharon Mitchell Letitia Dean had been poisoning him.

Fans know that Ian is still alive as he sent a divorce lawyer to see Sharon but besides that, everyone has remained in the dark about his whereabouts.

Outhwaite, 51, also opened up about a potential return to the soap herself, saying: “I would come back as a ghost when I am much older I would like to come back as a matriarch ghost.”

She also said she misses her former cast member: “I miss the people from EastEnders the most – we did a lot of laughing.”
