A Place in the Sun fans baffled as Ben Hillman shows guests a doctor’s surgery

Ben Hillman had his work cut out for him trying to find a perfect holiday home for a couple around Cádiz in southern Spain in A Place in the Sun.

John and Daniel fell in love with the area while learning Spanish and now they were looking for their own home to renovate to their tastes within their budget of £100,000, as shown in Friday's episode (June 25) which first aired in 2018.

Ben's first two properties were not quite right, but the couple commented that the first one was "finished" and didn't require any updating which is what they wanted to do themselves.

The other one didn't hit right either, with John commenting it "wasn't what [he] envisioned".

With no contenders and just three more properties to go, Ben decided to make a bold move and took them to an unusual ground-floor apartment.

The £84,000 property in El Puerto de Santa Maria was a doctor's surgery that could be converted into a residential home but still had all its old medical setup in the rooms.

John and Daniel looked surprised as they saw examination tables, a scanner, two waiting rooms, and even a surgical table in what Ben had hoped might be their future home.

"The doctor will see now," joked Ben before asking how they felt about his eccentric find.

"It's very quirky isn't it," said John.

Daniel said: "Yeah I've just seen the room through there with the operating table… does it come furnished?"

Ben tried to joke they could turn the operating table into a drinks trolley, but the guests decided the strange apartment wasn't for them.

Asides from its strange history, they said it was a bit too dark due to be on the ground floor.

The viewers at home were equally shocked by the presentation of the doctor's surgery and very few seemed keen on the idea of buying it.

One viewer quipped on Twitter: "It's in the heart of town, it's the hearts in the jars that I’d be worried about."

"A bit sinister this one," commented a second person.

Someone else wrote: "I like the courtyard but the rest is just too much work."

A fourth joked: "They’ve still got the blood spatters to clean off!"

But a viewer who did like it commented: "I’d have the doctor's clinic. Cool in summer. Easy to upgrade.

"Town location. Loved that entrance courtyard. Well worth a bid."

In the end, John and Daniel did not find what they were looking for with Ben but they did manage to buy another property he hadn't shown them later.
