It looks like a “Wrecking Ball” has demolished another one of Miley Cyrus’ relationships, as, on Aug. 13, 2020, TMZ reported that the singer had split from fellow musician Cody Simpson. The news came 10 months after the couple began dating in October 2019, shortly after Cyrus divorced her husband, actor Liam Hemsworth. The former Disney actor dated lifestyle influencer, Kaitlynn Carter, somewhere in between, but once they broke up in September 2019, she was all about Simpson.
“Miley feels very secure with Cody and really trusts him,” a source told E! News. “He treats her well and makes her feel like a million bucks.” And Simpson told reporters at an event in October 2019, per People, “I’m very happy. We are very, very happy. She’s creative. She’s very passionate about what she does, and I’m very similar in that sense. That’s why we get along so well.”
Oh, and did we mention the matching tattoos? Yep, in March 2020, the now exes got matching trident tats, seemingly in honor of Simpson’s poetry book, titled, Prince Neptune: Poetry and Prose. The move came five months into the pair’s romance, per Elle.
So what led to this breakup? Find out more details after the jump.
Miley Cyrus shared a cryptic message
Miley Cyrus and Cody Simpson’s split was reported by TMZ, with the outlet stating that “it’s unclear right now what led to the breakup.” However, as the E! News noted, Cyrus did seem to hint at heartache in an earlier Instagram post, writing, “Forever and ever no more. The #MidnightSky is the road I’m taking…. head high up in the clouds.”
FYI: “Midnight Sky” is Cyrus’ new single, set to drop late on Aug. 13, 2020 — the same day the breakup news broke. Interesting timing.
Going off of pure speculation, we don’t think marriage had anything to do with the split — it seems like they were both on the same page about holding off. “I believe in marriage but haven’t thought too much about that,” Simpson relayed to The Syndey Morning Herald in April 2020. I am far too young to consider it, to be honest.” As for Cyrus, she divorced Liam Hemsworth in August 2019, so we can’t imagine she was itching to say ‘I do’ again anytime soon.
Of course, we’re curious to find out the next chapter in Miley Cyrus’ love life — stay tuned.
