Taylor Swift Surprises Fans With 'Folklore' Disney+ Concert—Here's When It Debuts

You haven’t seen this film before. Following a tumultuous year full of concert cancellations, including Taylor Swift’s Lover Fest performances, the singer surprised fans on Nov. 24 with the announcement that a Folklore concert is coming to Disney+.

The news came just two days after Swift teased on Twitter, “not a lot going on at the moment.” Of course, when the “cardigan” singer says she doesn’t have much going on, it probably means the exact opposite.

Taylor Swift announced ‘Folklore’ the day before it came out

Swift has stopped making her fans wait too long before her new projects debut. On July 23, she announced Folklore would be coming out July 24.

“Most of the things I had planned this summer didn’t end up happening,” she wrote on Instagram. “But there is something I hadn’t planned on that DID happen. And that thing is my 8th studio album, folklore. Surprise.”

“Tonight at midnight I’ll be releasing my entire brand new album of songs I’ve poured all of my whims, dreams, fears, and musings into,” she continued of her quarantine album. “I wrote and recorded this music in isolation but got to collaborate with some musical heroes of mine; @aarondessner (who has co-written or produced 11 of the 16 songs), @boniver (who co-wrote and was kind enough to sing on one with me), William Bowery (who co-wrote two with me) and @jackantonoff (who is basically musical family at this point).”

According to the Folklore Disney+ trailer, Dessner and Antonoff both perform alongside the “Betty” singer in the concert, which doubles as a documentary about the creation of the album. The Hollywood Reporter reports Justin Vernon of Bon Iver, who duets with Swift on the moody fan favorite “exile,” will also be performing.

When does the ‘Folklore’ concert come out?

As Swift said in her announcement, Folklore: The Long Pond Studio Sessions will be available to stream on Disney+ at midnight on Nov. 25 PST, 3 a.m. ET.

“Well it’s 11/24 and 24-11=13 so I’ve got an announcement,” the 30-year-old tweeted, continuing her obsession with the number 13. “You haven’t seen this film before. folklore: the long pond studio sessions will be out tonight at midnight PST on @DisneyPlus! #folkloreOnDisneyPlus.”

Fans are overwhelmed by Swift’s latest surprise.

“The way you consistently keep being the best thing about 2020,” one fan replied to the star’s announcement.

Chimed in another, “SHUT UP OMG WTF #FOLKLORE LIVE IS A WHOLE ANOTHER EXPERIENCE. YOU’RE THE QUEEN OF SURPRISES. ILOVEYOUUUSOMUCH.”

Swift calls ‘Folklore’ her quarantine ‘flotation device’

In the trailer, Swift is seen working and hanging out with Dessner and Antonoff in a cabin-like studio in Hudson Valley, New York. The trio sits by a fire drinking and talking about quarantine, celebrating the fact that they could safely be together in person after recording Folklore in isolation.

“There’s something about the complete and total uncertainty of life,” the Grammy winner starts off in the trailer. “If we’re going to have to recalibrate everything, we should start with what we love the most first.”

As she described the 16-track project, “It’s an album that allows you to feel your feelings, and it’s a product of isolation.”

“This could’ve been a time where I absolutely lost my mind,” she continued. “And instead I think this album was like a real flotation device for both of us.”

Folklore and all of its releases—from the merchandise to this new concert—continues to be a musical highlight of 2020 for Swift’s loyal fans.
