Keep reading to find out!
RaeLynn on ‘The Voice’ Season 2
Born Rachael Lynn Woodward on May 4, 1994, in Baytown, Texas, she graduated high school early in 2010 to pursue music. Two years later, she auditioned for The Voice Season 2 with the Pistol Annies’ “Hell on Heels” at 17-years-old. Judges Adam Levine and Blake Shelton both turned their chairs for her, and the singer chose Team Blake. For the next step, The Battle Rounds, she sang “Free Fallin,’” defeating Adley Stump. Online critics and several viewers felt she did not deserve to win, and her coach defended her on Twitter.
She advanced to the Live Shows where she sang Maroon 5’s “Wake Up Call,” and the public vote saved her. Her next performance, “She’s Country” by Jason Aldean, became her best selling cover on The Voice; however, she landed in the bottom two. For her last-chance performance, she chose The Band Perry’s “If I Die Young,” however, Shelton saved Erin Willett over Woodward.
RaeLynn’s top-charting music career
Soon after the show, the young singer signed to Republic Nashville and has since written songs with John Wiggins and Jon Randall as well as The Voice contestants Hailey Steele and Nicolle Galyon. She also performed “Lie,” co-written by Shelton’s ex-wife, Miranda Lambert and returned to The Voice Season 3 to perform her single, “Boyfriend.” The song debuted on the Bubbling Under Hot 100 Singles chart, making Raelynn the first contestant to chart Billboard after competing on The Voice.
She also worked with her former coach, performing backup vocals for his 2013 single, “Boys ‘Round Here” which peaked at number 16 on Billboard charts. In April 2013, the singer-songwriter signed to Dr. Luke’s publishing label, Prescription Songs. The following year, she made her debut on country music charts with “God Made Girls” and performed the single on The Voice in December 2014. Her song hit the top ten on country music charts and is now certified Gold.
The singer then signed to Valory Music Company and released an EP and a single which were not nearly as successful as her past work. In April 2016, she announced she parted ways with the record label and signed to Warner Bros. Nashville in June. She then released her first single on the label, “Love Triangle,” and critics praised her storytelling ability.
Her debut album, 2017’s WildHorse, hit number one on the Billboard Country Albums Chart, becoming the first female country artist to accomplish this since Maren Morris’ 2016 Hero. Woodward has received six award nominations for categories including Breakthrough Video of the Year and Country Best New Artist.
Is RaeLynn married?
Raelynn and ex-minor league baseball player Joshua Davis met in 2012 in church. Even though both were interested in each other, they did not begin a serious relationship right away. She told The Boot that they were friends for a year before realizing they had deeper feelings for each other.
In October 2015, Davis planned a surprise scavenger hunt for his leading lady which ended in a proposal at Belmont University, the place where the couple shared their first kiss. They married in February 2016, and then Woodward announced her husband enlisted in the military a year after their wedding. The happy couple does not currently have any children.
