Elvis Presley SECRETS revealed as Graceland archives unearth That’s The Way It Is jumpsuit

As the US remains in lockdown, the Graceland archives have been entertaining fans with some fascinating videos on Elvis Presley’s home and possessions. The latest sees Director of Archives Angie Marchese unearthing The King’s famous chained jumpsuit from his 1970 documentary film That’s The Way It Is. Here some Elvis secrets about the Las Vegas residency costume were revealed.

The Graceland archivist said: “Hi, it’s Angie and I’m back here in the Graceland Archives – the coolest building on property, I know.

“There’s millions of items in here but I thought I’d pick a random box and see what we found inside.”

Having picked out a mystery container, the treasure within turned out to contain the famous jumpsuit.

Angie said: “For those of you who are screaming at the computer right now, you guys know that this is actually the leather in chains jumpsuit from That’s The Way It Is.”

She commented on the item saying: “He recently had some conservation work done on him.

“And he’s been cleaned and he’s taken a little break from exhibits and he’s here in archives.”

It was then that Angie revealed a surprising fact about the jumpsuit from the movie.

She revealed: “Probably one of the cool things that I didn’t realise was that when Elvis was filming That’s The Way It Is and his chains break, they actually don’t break.”

Angie added: “They were attached with a hook… so they just came undone.

“So no worry about broken chains, even though when I saw it I thought the chains had broken.

“It’s also interesting that these are brown, not black. They’re brown suede.”

She then opened up the top and revealed that inside the lining the ID says the jumpsuit was made by IC Costume Company of Hollywood, California.

The Graceland archivist pointed out: “You will notice the lining is a little discoloured.

“That’s because Elvis, he used to sweat in these things!

“As you can see this one’s kinda light, not very heavy, but it’s really recognisable.”

Delving further into the box, Angie discovered Elvis’ very own size 12 designer stage boots.

Pointing out the colour of the jumpsuit and boots, Angie revealed: “You also will notice the colour of everything.

“On stage all of this looks white, but you’ll notice actually it’s an off-white colour.

“Turns out it was the stage lights that made it shine a bright white. If actually white, it wouldn’t have shone up as well on stage.”

That’s The Way It Is returns to UK cinemas for its 50th anniversary for one night only on August 13.
