BBQ season is finally here.
So that means grilling enthusiasts will be out in their droves lighting up the charcoal and serving up a feast.
However, not everyone is so skilled in the outdoor grilling department – even those who consider themselves the Gordon Ramsay of the BBQ.

But, fear not.
An expert revealed how even the seasoned grillers are doing it all wrong – and they're here to help.
Stevie Cheape, Head Chef at Campbells Prime Meat explained: “Food, friends and sun are what barbecues are all about, and there’s just something so satisfying about that!
"What makes them truly special is that you don't need to be an expert to master the art of the grill.
"While barbecuing may seem simple, avoiding a few mistakes can turn a good experience into an exceptional one.”
Ahead of National BBQ Week (29th May – 4th June), Stevie revealed the five biggest BBQing mistakes – and how to avoid them.
1. Not cleaning and oiling the grates
It's easy to forget – or avoid – cleaning the grates after usage.
Although, that makes the next time you use it a lot more difficult.
To prevent food from sticking and to avoid any unpleasant flavours, it is essential to keep your grates clean.
Even worse, using an unclean grill could transfer bad bacteria onto your food and it might make you ill.
So to avoid this, cleaning the grill after it has been used is important.
Lightly oiling the grates with a high smoke point oil such as rapeseed or vegetable oil will minimise the chances of food sticking to them.
2. Overcrowding the grill
If you've got plenty of guests to serve – or you're just very hungry – it can be tempting to overcrowd the BBQ.
But, slinging the burgers on all at once should be avoided.
Despite wanting to save time, you should put less food on the grill in order to make sure the meat is not unevenly cooked.
Also, you can risk steaming the burgers and not cooking them if you pack them all on.
The expert urges to grill in batches to make sure your burgers are the best they can be.
3. Too much flipping and pressing
Although it's tempting to show off your grilling skills, you should resist the urge to flip and press the burgers every few seconds.
Apparently, too much flipping and pressing is detrimental to crust formation and leaks out all the flavourful goodness.
Instead, you should allow the meat to cook undisturbed for a few minutes on each side and use a meat thermometer to ensure the desired finish.
4. Neglecting vegetables and fruits
While cooking meat on the BBQ is the most exciting part for many, you shouldn't forget about the importance of the veg!
Giving vegetables like corn on the cob, peppers, courgettes, and artichokes a good grill can add a lot of flavour to your spread.
The expert chef even suggests to BBQ fruits like pineapples, peaches, and watermelon to enhance their natural sweetness and make a great dessert.
5. Forgetting to rest the meat
That's right. Even meat needs a bit of rest.
Many people jump the gun and serve the juicy burgers right after grilling.
But, doing this doesn't allow the juices to redistribute throughout the meat that results in a more flavourful and tender final product.
To achieve this, the head chef explained to remove the meat from the grill, cover in foil and let it rest for 4-5 minutes before slicing or serving.
Well, looks like you'll be impressing friends and family with your new grilling skills!
