Where are the singers of boyband Blue now from weight loss to terrifying illness

Blue was by far one of the most popular boybands of the noughties.

Together Duncan James, Lee Ryan, Simon Webb and Anthony Costa dominated the charts with hit singles such as All Rise, Too Close and One Love.

Their album All Rise sold 1.4 million copies and was certified platinum in the UK.

The band even collaborated with Sir Elton John on a cover of his hit, Sorry Seems To Be The Hardest Word.

After splitting in 2005, the boys went their separate ways focusing on various solo projects and reality TV appearances.

Blue temporarily reformed in 2011 to represent the UK at the Eurovision Song Contest before releasing two albums and performing a series of shows.

In 2013, they reformed again as part of the ITV Big Reunion show.

However, now they are back for a 20th anniversary reunion tour with support from Atomic Kitten much to the delight of their fans.

So before they hit the road on their Heart and Soul tour, let’s catch up with the boys and what they’ve been up to during Blue’s musical hiatus.

Duncan James

In 2016, Duncan joined the cast of Hollyoaks playing the role of policeman Ryan Knight.

The singer has enjoyed a successful career in musical theatre, most recently touring the UK with Priscilla Queen Of The Desert and before that Legally Blonde: The Musical.

He has also worked as a presenter, fronting shows such as Soapstar Superstar and entertainment slots for the now defunct GMTV. Duncan has also competed in reality shows such as Celebrity Masterchef.

In 2010, he came out as bisexual before revealing he was gay in 2012. He's been dating Brazilian Rodrigo Reis since 2019, although they were forced to spend last Christmas apart due to the Covid restrictions.

Duncan has one daughter called Tianie Finn who he shares with ex-girlfriend Claire Granger.

In 2016, Duncan revealed how a terrifying illness almost left him in a wheelchair. Duncan was rushed to hospital after fluid from his brain and spine began pouring out of a surgery wound.

“Doctors told me I could have spent the rest of my life in a wheelchair – or died," he told The Mirror. “They said if they didn’t operate that same day I’d be paralysed because a nerve that was trapped would die."

Lee Ryan

When not performing with Blue, Lee Ryan has appeared in a number of TV show.

He also landed an acting part in EastEnders, playing Woody Woodward between 2017 and 2018.

Lee Ryan famously appeared on Celebrity Big Brother where he became embroiled in a love triangle with Casey Batchelor and US model Jasmine Waltz.

More recently he appeared on Celebs Go Dating and competed on Strictly Come Dancing.

In August, he told s court he had ‘no money’ after being ordered to pay a £1500 motoring fine claiming COVID had left him unable to earn money.

The same month he welcomed his first child with girlfriend Verity Paris, a baby daughter named Bluebell.

Simon Webbe

Simon Webbe continued to work in the music industry while Blue took a break.

The singer and songwriter releases music as a solo artist, with his last offering being his album Smile in 2017.

In 2019, Simon tragically lost a brother to suicide, receiving the news when he was working away.

Sharing the news with OK!, he said: "I’ve actually been off social media until recently because I sadly lost my brother to suicide almost two months ago."

"It is something that is taboo. It’s taught me that people just need to be honest about what they need personally," he continued.

"It’s taboo and needs to be brought to the forefront, we can all start by asking someone, anyone close to you “ how are you really feeling” after that the key is to listen.

He has a 24-year-old daughter Alanah, with ex-girlfriend Nicola Jones, and is expecting another child with wife Ayshen this April.

Antony Costa

Shortly after the band split, Antony appeared on I'm a Celebrity, Get Me Out Of Here.

He went on to star in the West End production of Blood Brothers as Micky Johnstone.

He also appeared in pantomimes and took part in a celebrity version of Total Wipeout.

However, this year Anthony has admitted to serious financial problems following the end of the band.

"There were times that I couldn't even afford to get home afterwards to where I lived in Hertfordshire. I was sofa surfing because I was so skint. We were never given any advice on what to do with our money, how to save it, what not to do, and I was 18 years old and thought Blue was gonna last for donkey's years."

The hard times made him realise who was truly there for him following his departure from the limelight.

He added: "When you are going through that, you would really find out who your mates are. You would just know who the fake friends were, like we would be at a party and people would be cracking up at a joke I would tell that wasn't even funny."

Antony also opened up on his battle with his weight since 2010 when at 5ft 8in he weighed 14st.

"I looked like a young Pavarotti – double the size of the guy I was in Blue. How come I hadn’t noticed? I had a double chin, a sagging midriff – I hardly recognised myself," he said after watching himself on TV.

Antony has a long term partner Rosanna Jasmin and two daughters Savannah, six, and Paloma, three.
