Ciri meets Geralt’s old friend in ‘The Witcher’ Season 2, Episode 1
After the Battle of Sodden, Geralt (Henry Cavill) and Ciri have finally found each other and continue their destiny together. During a snowy night, they need to find a place to stay. The nearby village is too deserted for Geralt’s liking. He leads Ciri to an old friend’s house nearby.
Wary of the atmosphere, Geralt is on high alert. The monster that attacks him is none other than Nivellen. Instead of the human Geralt remembers, Nivellen was cursed to become a monster. Nivellen invites them into his home for the night.
His curse has given him magical powers, and he can conjure anything at will. The three characters catch up. Nivellen reveals a priestess cursed him for destroying her temple. Later in the night, Nivellen gives the first clue that the world will soon face something dark.
Geralt asks Nivellen why the townspeople fled. Nivellen answers the countryside has become dangerous. He explains a doom is nearing. Ciri says he saw the Wraiths or Mörhorgg. Nivellen too mentions the end of days.
Nivellen tells Ciri and old story about an elf and a human mage
Later in the night, Nivellen puts Ciri to bed while Geralt checks the perimeter. Nivellen conjures an old lantern that spins and tells a story. He explains the item is old and first saw it while studying at Oxenfurt. The lantern tells the story of a doomed Elven warrior and the human she falls in love with.
The story is called “The Fall of the Elders.” The story is as follows. An Elven warrior and a human mage were created from hate to kill each other. But instead, they fell in love and ran away. The warrior and human mage got married and were expecting a child.
They were killed in a tragic turn of events, and only the baby survived. The story Nivellen tells Ciri in The Witcher Season 2, Episode 1, is the beginning of her bloodline and the reason for her destiny.
Ciri is a descendant of Lara Dorren, the Elven warrior in ‘The Witcher’ Season 2
Unbeknownst to Ciri, Geralt, and even the viewers, Nivellen’s story revealed the answer to Ciri’s powers all along. By episode 5 of the series, Ciri ventures into her subconscious with Triss (Anna Shaffer). They meet a young Elven woman holding a baby and fatally wounded. Ciri realizes it is the warrior from Nivellen’s story.
The story Nivellen told Ciri was of Lara Dorren. She was an Elven warrior and sorceress created to kill the human invaders to give elves back their power. In episode 6 of The Witcher Season 2, Istredd uncovers the truth.
Lara Dorren cursed humanity until the tenth generation, when her anguish would be reborn as the ultimate weapon to destroy humanity. Lara Dorren’s lineage is connected to Cintra’s. This makes Ciri the weapon and possesses Elder blood.
