WITH The X Factor: Celebrity kicking off tonight, you may be inspired to do some karaoke.
But you need not splurge on expensive equipment to stage a bash Simon Cowell would be proud of.
I’ve tracked down some great savings . . .
KARAOKE MACHINE: These can cost more than £200, but there is no need to spend that much to make like an X Factor contestant. Head to Argos, where I have found buys for as little as £39.99. The RockJam SingCube connects to your mobile and has a light show that moves in time with your music. Very cool.
SAVE: About £160
MICROPHONE: Not bothered about duetting? The divas among you can save even more dosh by treating yourself to a karaoke mic. B&M’s iDance one also serves as speaker and disco light and can connect to any compatible Bluetooth device. Even better, it’s just a tenner — £19.99 cheaper than similar at Ryman.
LIGHTING: I love Boots’ £10 Satzuma Disco Bulb. Temporarily replace your ceiling fixture to transform your lounge into a nightclub. Much cheaper than a professional set-up, which can cost upward of £100.
SAVE: More than £100
DANCE MAT: Channel the X Factor groups by practising a routine on a mat. You can buy state-of-the-art ones for around £60, but I love the idea of nabbing a retro Seventies version on Amazon. These are available for just £11.50.
SAVE: About £49
PARTY ON: After watching the X Factor fun and games, you may be feeling inspired to head for a real karaoke bar. Groupon has some amazing deals and discounts — now that’s worth singing about.
SAVE: Up to 88 per cent on a booth
