Red hair dye sales surge 43 per cent as Stacey Solomon fans copy her DIY transformation

Loose Women star Stacey Solomon impressed fans last week when she bravely coloured her own hair a bright cherry red shade using a box dye.

The mum-of-four shared a snap of the finished look to her Instagram account, where the post quickly amassed over 700K likes. Some followers even compared the star to Ariel from Disney’s The Little Mermaid.

Now, according to Naturtint, sales of red hair dye on Amazon have increased by 43 per cent since Stacey’s transformation, with the shades Fireland and Fire Red flying off the shelves. This proves many fans are desperate to dye their hair a similar shade of fiery berry.

Although the presenter didn’t reveal her go-to colour, many fans believe she used L'Oréal Paris’ Preference P37 Permanent Hair Dye 1 Kit,£5.55 here, in the shade Dark Red, Ultraviolet or Budapest Red, depending on which retailer you buy it from.

Stacey revealed to fans that she’d been wanting to dye her hair red for a while, but decided to take matters into her own hands since her usual hairdresser was off on maternity leave.

“I would usually go to my hairdresser to dye my hair but she’s on maternity too and I made the decision this morning so no one was available,” Stacey told her fans.

“I’ve been thinking about it for ages and Joe booked a meal for us today so I just thought ‘sod it’ and went for it. It’s a little bright but I think I love it,” she added.

The presenter documented the process on her Instagram Stories, and shared some home-dye tips with her 4.9 million followers.

“Don’t wear white, do it inside the shower, don’t let it spill on your eyebrow and leave it there, it will dye that too,” Stacey said.

“Sometimes you’ve just got to go for it and then think about it later,” she joked.

In the clips shared to her Stories, the star is seen mixing the colour with the developer, before applying to her roots and working her way down. She then shared a clip of her final look – a gorgeous bright red shade that looks like she’s fresh out of the salon.

Despite only paying a fiver for the entire transformation, Stacey’s Ariel-inspired look is nothing short of professional, and we can see why red hair dye is flying off the shelves.
