DEAR DEIDRE: IT might sound silly but I am grieving. I am a man of 62 and live alone.
My budgie Roger – my only companion in lockdown – has flown away.

He escaped when I left the door open just for a minute. I don’t think I can ever forgive myself.
He was so playful, funny and naughty. I miss him so much.
I’ve put up flyers and posts on Facebook to no avail. I can’t stop thinking about how alone, scared and cold he will be, if he’s even still alive.
Not knowing is killing me. I am going to have a photo printed to remember him by.
I know people will say it’s only a budgie but he was so much more than that to me.
DEIDRE SAYS: Losing a pet can be very painful. Comfort yourself with the thought that Roger might have found a good home elsewhere and is at least safe.
If necessary, you can find help through Blue Cross (bluecross.org.uk), which operates a Pet Bereavement Support Service.
As you are feeling lonely in lockdown, could you think about volunteering, so you are meeting people and helping others?
