Browsing in Home Bargains is practically a British pass time at this point with thousands of us flocking to the store every week.
After all, who doesn’t want to snap up some pretty homeware and toys for the kids while picking up their cleaning products and nibbles?
But, just because you’re a regular bargain-hunter doesn’t mean you know all the tricks of the shopping experience.
Luckily, a former Home Bargains employee has revealed some of her best tips for making the most of your trip.
Jessica Harrison, 19, from Burnley, posted on TikTok, to expose the store’s secrets.
The student, who attends the University of Manchester, worked at Home Bargains for four months in 2021.
'I've wanted kids since I was 6 but I'm not a good mum and hate playing with them'
She said: “I worked Monday to Friday and started at 6am everyday, but there was no end time. My experience wasn’t a great one to be honest.”
In the video she answered “no” to a bunch of questions including: “do you do cash back”, “can I buy more than two packs of paracetamol”, “can I push the till barrier open” and “can you see if you have any more in the back?”.
But, Jessica also explained that the best time to get a deal is to go to Home Bargains at the end of the season.
She noted: “So just after Christmas is your best time to grab bits for the following year!
“I worked throughout the Easter period and when Easter was over, all of the decorations were drastically reduced in price.”
And, Jessica said that it’s also very hard to get a discount in the store.
Posting on Instagram, Jessica said: “Discounts are only given when there is something wrong with the item, for example if there is a piece missing or something could be broken.
“They are quite strict with when discounts are given and the shop floor staff always have to ask a manager before telling a customer they can have something at a reduced rate. “
There aren’t many deals which aren’t sign posted in the shop, Jessica added, but she did advise checking the Home Bargains social media pages which tell you when discounts and new items hit the shelves.
Ever been looking for something in particular and can’t hunt it down?
Well, the former employee pointed out that if the shop doesn’t have your desired product you can ask management to ring nearby stores.
And, they can request that the other shop puts the item aside for you.
Then all you need to do is nip to the other shop and ask for them to bring it to you.
