Parcel firms are required to improve their services after nearly two-thirds of Britons reported suffering problems with their deliveries.
Regulator Ofcom plans to impose new rules and require companies to treat their customers more fairly.
Some of the changes will include greater protection for disabled customers.
Those are said to be 50 percent more likely to experience problems with deliveries.
A recent survey revealed 64 percent of Britons had issues with parcel deliveries in the last three months.
A quarter reported it is difficult to make a complaint or contact the delivery company when there is an issue.
One in 10 also revealed their complaint wasn’t solved.
According to recent data, more than 10 million parcels are delivered every day meaning this is an issue that greatly affects the UK.
Lindsey Fussell, Ofcom’s networks and communications group director, said: “Parcel deliveries have become increasingly important to our daily lives and customers rightly expect a positive experience.
“We’re planning to strengthen our rules to make sure people are treated fairly by delivery firms.
“If we don’t see significant improvements in customer service, we’ll consider enforcement action or tighten regulations further.”
After rules are strengthened, Britons will see substantial improvements and will find it easier to make complaints and have their delivery problems solved quicker.
Royal Mail will be subject to more regulation than other postal operators.
The regulator said that despite “generally working well” it is concerned about Royal Mail’s efficiency performance.
In other news, Royal Mail has warned customers to get their Christmas post sorted out as early as possible, to ensure it reaches friends and family in time.
Christmas is the busiest time of year and Royal Mail has recruited 20,000 workers to ensure Christmas cards and parcels are delivered.
Royal Mail said: “Allow plenty of time for posting. Please post items and gifts for Christmas early, particularly for International deliveries. Ongoing Covid restrictions, reduced air and freight capacity, high volumes and winter weather conditions are all impacting transportation and local delivery across the globe.”
