‘Britain’s first gay dad’ Barrie Drewitt-Barlow says his children can spend as much as they want and he’ll foot the bill – and reveals he gave daughter Saffron a £500,000 ring owned by Wallis Simpson when she was a baby

- Was one of the first gay men in the UK to father children through surrogacy
- Says he loves spoiling his children to make up for them not having a mother
- Eight-month-old baby daughter Valentina boasts designer wardrobe worth £70K
Barrie Drewitt-Barlow has revealed his six children have an unlimited spending allowance and admits he’s spoilt them from the moment they were born to make up for them not having a mother in their lives.
The Manchester-born businessman, 51, who was one of the first gay men in the UK to father children through surrogacy with his ex-husband Tony Drewitt-Barlow, 56, told how he gifted daughter Saffron, 21, a £500,000 diamond and ruby ring once owned by Wallis Simpson when she was a baby.
His eight-month-old daughter Valentina, whom he shares with fiancé Scott Hutchison, 27, who used to date Saffron, also boasts a designer wardrobe worth £70,000 which they are constantly having to replace because she is growing so fast.
Barrie, who now lives in a £6million, ten-bedroom mansion in Tampa, Florida with all the family, insists his generosity doesn’t make his children ungrateful, and argues that parents who claim buying their children anything they ask for makes them spoilt brats are ‘using it as an excuse not to treat them’.

‘Nothing makes me happier than seeing my children light up when I buy them the latest design gear or a new set of wheels,’ he told Fabulous Digital.
‘None of my children have an allowance, what’s the need? Instead Aspen, Saffron and Orlando, 17, have an unlimited Black Amex card. They can just spend whatever they want and at the end of the month I pick up the bill.
‘Just this week Saffron flew to Las Vegas with her friends and she thought nothing of putting the £120,000 private jet cost on my AMEX – she really is a daddy’s girl. That might seem extravagant but for Saffron and any of my other kids, it’s just their way of life.’
Barrie admitted he has lavished gifts on Saffron and her twin brother Aspen since day dot as he felt he needed to ‘make up for the fact they don’t have a mother in their lives’.
When his older children turned 16, Barrie said they were all given cars – one of which was written off – while Saffron was presented with a selection of diamonds that he had been collecting for her since she was born.

He told how there is ‘no limit’ to how much he spends on his kids – who all own properties, businesses and valuable pieces of art – and once dropped £1.8million in a single day to buy Saffron a new apartment.
Barrie also once treated her to a £500,000 Faberge ring – though Scott does feel that he goes ‘over the top’ with his eldest daughter.
‘He has asked me many times not to give in to her and just buy her what she wants, but I do it anyway,’ the proud father told the publication.
He added that Scott is guilty of spoiling Valentina and regularly buys her gifts from Tiffany, including a diamond and platinum bracelet that set him back £35,000.
Barrie said he believes he and Tony have been better parents that a lot of straight people, and claimed all their children are perfectly behaved and ambitious, not complacent.
He previously told how he and Scott can’t wait to add to their brood, and are already underway for a surrogate to have twins.

Saffron previously revealed that she refuses to shop at Primark or Michael Kors – and throws away clothes after just one wear
He added that he has no plans to stop spoiling his family, and doesn’t care what other people think.
Barrie and Tony hit headlines in 1999 when they became the first same sex couple to be formally registered as parents to twins Saffron and Aspen, born via surrogate.
Barrie already had a son from a previous relationship, and the couple, who made their millions through ventures including a surrogacy agency and medical research firm, became civil partners in 2006 and married in 2014.
But Barrie previously told how they ‘slid into a platonic relationship’ after Tony was diagnosed with throat cancer in 2006. He said bisexual Scott, his PA of seven years, became a ‘shoulder to cry on’ when Tony was in hospital during treatment in 2018.
Saffron has known Scott since she was 13, when he came to work for the family as a personal assistant, and he’s one of her best friends (pictured with Barrie)
In 2019, Barrie announced that Tony remained his ‘true love’ but they had ended their 32-year relationship.
Saffron previously confessed that watching her former lover and her father kiss sometimes makes her want to vomit.
She also revealed that she refuses to shop at Primark or Michael Kors – and throws away clothes after just one wear.
She claimed that Primark is one of multiple ‘sh** shops’ she refuses to spend her money in – despite going there just once – and admitted just the shoes, bags and clothes in her wardrobe alone are worth well over a million pounds.
Saffron also told how Tampa doesn’t have ‘amazing shops’ so she frequently jets off to Miami or Los Angeles. However, not everything she purchases has to have a hefty price tag, with the 21-year-old admitting she purchases from the likes of Pretty Little Thing and Boohoo because they look good with a pair of Louis Vuitton shoes.
