Aldi launches special wooden log burner perfect for cooking food

No more struggling over the BBQ! Shoppers go wild over a ‘Swedish torch’ log packed with a firelighter that creates an instant campfire – after Aldi’s £6.99 version sold out online

  • Aldi sold a Gardenline Swedish Eco Torch as a cheap alternative to a BBQ
  • The £6.99 burner can be used for both cooking and as a heating solution outside
  • The log is packed with a firelighter and burns from the inside out

Shoppers have gone wild over a ‘Swedish torch’ log that serves as an instant campfire and eco-friendly single-use BBQ – and it’s already sold out at Aldi.

Known as a ‘Swedish Torch’, a ‘Fire Log’ or a ‘Canadian Candle’, the clever invention is made up of a wood log with a firelighter in the hole at the top that creates a controlled fire when lit.

The wood burns down from the inside out and lasts for approximately two hours. When the log burns down it can be tipped over and used as the foundation for a larger campfire, if desired.

Customers who missed out on the opportunity to buy asked the retailer to bring it back in stock.

They also warned the log should be placed on a heatproof base to avoid damaging the ground underneath.

One review on the Aldi website reads: ‘Hope these come back into stock!! Bought in store for camping trip & wish I could get more. Great heat, no smoke & wonderful centerpiece to watch the flames dance. would recommend resting on a couple of bricks to prevent damage to ground.’

Aldi released its £6.99 version of the Swedish Eco Torch as part of its Special Buy offerings and it quickly sold out online

A second customer wrote: ‘Beware, burns really well, too well in our case. Had one on the patio, burnt right down and cracked slabs underneath due to the intense heat. Spectacular while it lasted though.’

Aldi claimed the Gardenline Swedish Eco Torch gets hot enough to serve as a BBQ withing 25 minutes of lighting.

Aldi has Special Buys on offer on their website, and list everything from garden furniture to toys and pet accessories to kitchen appliances.

New stock arrives every Thursday and Sunday and customers often have to get in there first to get their hands on the latest arrivals.
