Christmas 2020 was a rather lacklustre affair in lockdown for many, and with people ramping up to celebrate in June when they can reunite with family, Aldi has reissued its festive mince pies for the occasion.
The German supermarket announced its Specially Selected Mini Mince Pies will be available for £1.79 in-stores nationwide from 21st June, the proposed date when all legal limits on social contact will be lifted.
More than 11,000 people took to the Aldi Facebook page to like its post, with many gushing that they will be having a second Christmas and seeing loved ones who they couldn’t spend the festive season with last year.

Aldi racked up over 11,000 likes and thousands of comments on their post, explaining the release is for those celebrating Christmas again when lockdown restrictions ease
One person wrote: ‘Aldi UK that’s the spirit we love! Life as of June 21st is getting back to normality. Christmas last year sucked, so I’ve already told my lot that this year it’ll be coming in early’
Another said: ‘We’re having Christmas day part 2 on 26th June all with presents and decorations, but will be nice all family can get together that’s what we missed last year.
‘We’re hoping for good weather as we’re having a BBQ instead of Christmas dinner, too many of us to cook for’
A third added: ‘We having our crimbo day 26th June and cannot wait (can’t do 25th as we all at work) bouncy castle booked, Crimbo crackers ready, Crimbo playlist sorted… and now we can get mince pies wahoo’
The £1.79 mini mince pies follows research that suggests almost half of Brits will be planning a Junemas celebration
A flood of responses have praised Aldi for the announcement and shared how they will be celebrating the easing of lockdown restrictions
Aldi announced Junemas after research found 47 per cent of Brits are planning to have a festive celebration when lockdown restrictions ease next month.
Almost half of Brits listed mince pies as the quintessential Christmas treat that they’re hoping to see back on the shelves throughout June and web searches for ‘mince pies’ were up by 25 per cent in April alone.
Over 70 per cent of the participants involved in the poll said they’re looking forward to being reunited with friends, while 62 per cent said they’re anticipating get-togethers with extended family.
Julie Ashfield who is Managing Director of Buying at Aldi, commented: ‘The first Friday post-lockdown will feel like Christmas, as we all get to meet up with friends and family after months apart.
‘We thought let’s make it a Junemas to remember by bringing back the nations festive favourite – mince pies – to help celebrate this very special occasion!’
Aldi has since also been inundated with requests for turkey and dishes traditional served with a Christmas dinner.
The supermarket has launched a poll on Twitter asking customers if they would prefer Christmas pudding, pigs in blankets, carrot or turkey.
Many responses to the post urged Aldi to offer other foods traditional enjoyed during the festive season
