Prince Charles Has the Most Special Nickname for Meghan Markle

Family members offer nicknames to one another all the time. Prince Charles has reportedly nicknamed Meghan Markle “tungsten”, and we like the reason behind the moniker. The future king and Duchess of Sussex have developed a close relationship as father-in-law and daughter-in-law following her marriage to Prince Harry.

Throughout her transition into the royal family, the Duchess of Sussex has had to weather a number of dramas and unwarranted criticism from her family and the tabloids. But through it all, she has remained a stoic figure and has eased into her transition. Among her supporters has been Prince Charles. “They really developed this strong bond. He’s even got a nickname for her,” shared royal correspondent Russell Myers with Yahoo’s Royal Box.

“He’s been calling her tungsten, the metal, because she is tough and unbending,” Myers continued. “It’s a bit of a weird one but I think he really respects her. He thinks she has managed to deal with it well. He has had his fair share of bad press in the past, a lot of crisis in his life, so I think he’s trying to get her to navigate the choppy waters of joining the Royal Family.” The bond is one that’s great to see, especially considering the Duchess of Sussex’s transition hasn’t been easy.

Prince Charles left an indelible impact on Markle and the public when she chose the future king to walk her down the aisle at her wedding in May 2018, meeting him halfway after she walked solo. It was a charming but very meaningful moment. The drama with the Duchess of Sussex’s father and her estranged family has continued, with further criticisms, blame and judgement being dolled out to the new mother.

But the Duchess of Sussex is turning her focus to her young family. And wholly including Prince Charles is very important to her. “People I’ve been speaking to this week have said Meghan only wants positive influences in Archie’s life so she has completely banished her father — no contact going on whatsoever,” Myers continued. As for the Duchess of Sussex’s mother, Doria, the pair remain extremely close, with the Duchess sharing with Glamour in August 2018, “We can just have so much fun together, and yet I’ll still find so much solace in her support.” It seems that Markle has all the support she needs.
