Olly Alexander ditches Rihanna's Savage x Fenty after Johnny Depp news

Olly Alexander has vowed to stop using Rihanna’s Savage x Fenty brand after news emerged Johnny Depp will make a cameo in her upcoming Vol 4 showcase.

The highly anticipated Amazon Prime Video release will be the fourth of its kind and pictures have already been released showing modelling royalty such as Cara Delevingne and Irina Shayk strutting down the runway.

However news of the Pirates of the Caribbean actor’s inclusion in the production prompted the Years and Years singer to share his opinion on Twitter.

Responding to announcements posted by different outlets online, Olly expressed his disappointment by sharing a sad face emoji alongside one of the reports.

The post linked to an article and led with the caption: ‘Johnny Depp will become the first man to have his own spotlight segment at Rihanna’s ‘Savage X Fenty’ fashion show, according to TMZ.’

Quickly noticing the singer’s reaction, fans rushed to understand why he was upset as a former champion of the brand.

Olly chose to reply to one message in particular, which read: ‘But, “Savage X Fenty” is you baby……. you wear it so well [SIC]’

Thanking the fan for the compliment, the Years and Years frontman dropped his stance on the issue: ‘thank you but after this news i won’t be wearing it anymore [SIC]’

Having partnered with the brand in the past, Olly joined Savage X Fenty’s Valentine lingerie campaign earlier this year.

Twitter users reacted with a flurry of support for the It’s A Sin star, offering to stand with him and sharing their admiration for his ‘principles’.

One fan applauded the star for speaking out: ‘I admire your principles every time and seriously take my hat off to you as it’s soo easy to get swallowed up by the industry and not look beyond the surface of things.’

The award-winning artist wasn’t the only one that had doubts about whether Johnny should be included in the permanence set to air later this month.

Following the high-profile libel trial the actor was embroiled in with his ex-wife, Amber Heard, last summer, fans were not convinced the controversial figure deserved a place in the end credits as one asked: ‘Rihanna what is this….. [SIC].’

Metro.co.uk has contacted reps for Rihanna, Johnny Depp, Savage x Fenty and Amazon Studios for comment.

Rihanna’s Savage x Fenty Vol 4 airs on Amazon Prime Video on November 9.
