Drew Barrymore is out here stealing out hearts after coming to the rescue of a poor pup involved in a hit-and-run in New York.
The actress, 45, was seen helping out a dog owner on Manhattan’s Upper East Side, after their pooch was knocked by a car and suffering a dog injury.
Drew was spotted coming to their aid with a friend, as they helped to organise for the dog to get the medical attention it needed following the incident.
Affectionately petting the dog on the head as she waited with the injured pup and owner on the street, Drew looked concerned as she showered the furry patient with affection.
The 50 First Dates star was casually dressed in loungewear, a long grey cardigan and Ugg slippers and was seen wearing a protective shield over her face, as she leant a hand.
It’s reported Drew’s friend drove the owner and the dog to get medical help.
Fans will know it’s no surprise that Drew was on hand to help out, as she is a self confessed dog lover and has rescued dogs in need – fostering nine pups throughout her life.
Speaking to Entertainment Tonight in 2016, she credited dogs for helping her through difficult times, as she gushed ‘life is definitely better’ with a four-legged pal by your side.
‘I’ve been a sure dog lover my whole life, Life is better with dogs. Life is definitely better with rescue dogs,’ she told the publication. ‘There’s a reason people cling to their pets.’
‘Animals have given me a rite of passage, a humility and a purpose and a kindness and a lack of cruelty. I don’t have it in my heart to be rude, mean, cruel, unkind to any person on the planet.’
Drew even credits one of her pups Flossie for saving her life. In 2001, Drew’s Beverly Hills home set on fire and she and her ex-fiancé Tom Green were woken up by Flossie barking and banging on the door – alerting the pair of the inferno.
She, Tom, Flossie and Drew’s other two dogs all managed to escape unharmed.
A rep for Drew, who now hosts her very own chat show, told New York Post at the time: ‘Flossie barked and literally banged on their bedroom door. She was really the main alert that there was a fire.’
And that, friends, is why we will forever be obsessed with our cute canines.
