Tupac Shakur faked his own death and fled to New Mexico, an explosive new documentary will claim.

The rapper was murdered in a drive-by shooting in Las Vegas in 1996 but many fans are convinced that this was staged and he is actually still alive.

Filmmaker Rick Boss will explore the conspiracy theories in his new film 2Pac: The Great Escape from UMC.

After he was shot at four times Tupac died in hospital six days later, but Boss isn't convnced.

"Getting protection from the Navajo tribe."

Boss said he made the escape after discovering a plan to kill him.

He thinks Tupac either used a body double or escaped Vegas in a helicopter.

"When certain FBI agencies are looking for you, they are going to block the airport," he continued.

"So you can't travel out so the best way to escape is through helicopter, private helicopter to another state."

Boss said the documentary, which comes out next year, will focus on the rapper's circle of family and friends.

He continued: "You can write a fiction. You can write a fiction story but this is not a fiction. This is facts through certain people I know.

"Let's just say Mr. Shakur – the family is aware of the movie and they're okay with the title so that should tell you more or less what's going on."

It comes after a private investigator claimed that there is proof that rapper Tupac is 'alive and well and living in Belize'.

The investigator has leaked a new photo of the rapper on his YouTube channel and is convinced that it is the real thing.
