TOWIEs Ferne McCann insists my lairy and confrontational persona is gone as she joins Celeb SAS

The Only Way Is Essex fan favourite Ferne McCann has told OK! that she's been forced to put her "lairy" and "lippy' days behind her as she progresses in her career.

Catching up with us and other press whilst discussing her upcoming debut on Channel 4's most brutal and challenging armed forces reality series Celebrity SAS, Ferne, 32, admitted she has become more emotional, as opposed to confrontational.

"When I was in TOWIE, which feels many moons ago, I guess I got pigeon-holed as confrontational, opinionated," the mum-of-one reflects. "But I wouldn't dream of arguing back [with the SAS officers], especially with someone that I respected.

"I really struggled with the DS shouting at me, but I wouldn't have been lippy or had an attitude. I took it really personally, which obviously you shouldn't do, so I cried a lot."

Ferne admitted that the tough and trialling process has encouraged her to put away her tendency to involve herself in a heated on-screen discussion behind her.

"Throughout my life I've always thought that crying and showing that emotion – I've always been very open and shared how I felt – and I encourage my daughter to be expressive – but the DS was like, 'You need to get a grip of your emotion', but I couldn't stop crying.

"I wouldn't dare have answered back to them, no way. That sort-of confrontational, opinionated, lairy persona is very much a thing of the past in my TOWIE, so I was just very emotional and had to really get a grip of that or it would have been the death of me."

Giving us an insight into what to expect from the upcoming series, Ferne also reflected on her most terrifying moment.

"Escaping from the gas room. This is not an exaggeration – I thought I was going to die. I have never experienced anything like it. I had liquid coming out of every crevice and hole possible."

She continued, "I was being sick, there were streams of snot coming out of my nose, I was crying. Every part of the course is designed to make you into a beast and a warrior – to break you and see if you’ve got the strength to pick yourself back up.
