After graduating, he moved to London to pursue his acting career, starting off with small onscreen roles in the likes of TV shows G Force, Bad Girls and Holby City in the early 2000s.

He worked consistently across film and television with some of his movie credits including, Huge, The Awakening as well shorts Rojin and Closing Doors.

Cree’s first recurring role was in the BBC series Lip Service which he starred in for two years.

His theatre credits include productions of Fierce: An Urban Myth, Cabaret, Company and Macbeth.

The actor continued to act in various roles including Outlaw/King, The Titan, Churchill, Silent Witness, among other projects.

Although Outlander is his biggest role to date, the actor is now appearing in season two of A Discovery of Witches season two, starring opposite Matthew Goode and Teresa Palmer.

Cree is portraying Elizabethan vampire Gallowglass, who he says is an “entirely different proposition” to Outlander’s Ian and is likely to propel him further into the spotlight.

Prior to filming, Cree read A Discovery of Witches by American author Deborah Harkness to get a handle on the character and said he “absolutely loved” Gallowglass.

He explained to Entertainment Weekly how he was more prepared for the huge fanbase of A Discovery of Witches compared to Outlander.

Cree said: “Even though I was aware of Outlander being a hugely successful book series, I didn’t know anything about the huge fan base.

“It wasn’t actually until I was on Outlander that I realized how big the whole thing was, whereas with this, it was an entirely different scenario from the start.”

He revealed he’d asked his Outlander co-star Heughan for some tips on how to get in shape for Gallowglass, who is known to be a spry member of the undead.

Cree and the rest of the cast of A Discovery of Witches are working on season three at the moment and the actor said he was going to miss playing Gallowglass once the shoot ended.
