Steph McGovern, 38, has revealed she felt concerned when taking her daughter back to swimming classes after the coronavirus lockdown. The former BBC Breakfast presenter, who welcomed her first baby with her partner last year, shared her worries while speaking to her co-hosts Claire and Producer Geoff during her Not Bad For A Monday podcast.

Steph explained: “I’ve been to, you know you can do little swimming classes for babies called Water Babies?

“So I’ve taken the baby back to Water Babies, which I was really nervous about because…”

Geoff then cheekily joked: “You’ve taken the baby back?”

After giggling at her co-star’s remark, Steph continued: “When she was teeny tiny, she went, and she wasn’t very alert at it, but I was really panicking because she’s obviously not been in a swimming pool for four months.

“And I was like, ‘Oh God, I’m going to be the parent there where she’s kicking off and everyone else is going to be like, dead well behaved and all that.’”

Steph added: “Anyway, we had to change venue because they’ve got to be socially distant and we needed to go to a bigger swimming pool.”

The Steph Show host then revealed she made an exciting discovery when visiting the new pool.

She exclaimed: “So guess where the swimming pool was?

“It was at The Crown Hotel in Borough Bridge where we recorded one of our very first podcasts!”

“No way, I remember that so fondly,” Claire gasped in response to the familiar location.

Steph gushed: “I know, do you remember that? That was about a year ago when we did that!”

The presenter went on to say that in spite of her fears for her little one’s reaction to their return to the pool, everything went better than she expected.

Steph revealed: “Honestly, I thought she was going to kick off and she didn’t.

“And I was just so over the moon that she wasn’t screaming and everyone was looking at me and thinking how much of a bad parent I am.

“Is that your default attitude when you’re in public?” Geoff quizzed his pal.

Steph then admitted: “It is! And also especially because sometimes I get recognised, you can see people going, ‘Steph off the telly, bad parent.’”

Claire sympathised with her friend and said: “That must be really hard actually.”

Fortunately, Steph seemed more relaxed about the situation, adding: “Nah, it’s alright.”

The mum-of-one recently told her 404,000 Twitter followers she made a slight error on her daughter’s swimming trip and forgot the label was still on the little one’s costume.

She penned in a tweet: “Finally back in the pool with my little one today. She loved it! Phew.

“Although cos we haven’t been for four month’s she’s moved up a size in costume…silly mam (me) didn’t notice label was still on until after class.Whoops!”(sic)
