Wonderwall.com is taking a look back at the celebrities who found love, suffered heartbreak or experienced some other major event in their love lives in late December 2021 and early January 2022, starting with this exciting news… It appears there’s a new man in Rebel Wilson’s life: The actress is spending time with Australian professional tennis player Matt Reid, and according to a source for the Australian tabloid the Herald Sun, the buzz in the tennis world is that they “could be more than just friends.” The pair were snapped getting breakfast together at a café in Sydney on Christmas Eve — two weeks after they posed together on the red carpet at the 11th Annual Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts Awards. According to Daily Mail Australia, it’s possible the pair connected through her pal Brittany Hockley, who’s dating another Australian tennis player: Jordan Thompson. Back in August, Brittany, who was a finalist on the sixth season of the Australian version of “The Bachelor” in 2018, even took to Instagram to share a photo of herself hanging out with Rebel and Matt during the US Open. For months now, there have been whispers about the nature of Kate Bosworth’s relationship with Justin Long in the wake of her mid-2021 split from husband Michael Polish. After the “Live Free or Die Hard” actor referenced his girlfriend on the Dec. 28 episode of his “Life Is Short” podcast, Page Six confirmed that, according to multiple sources, Justin’s mystery woman is, in fact, the “Blue Crush” actress. The pair connected while shooting a movie in Fayetteville, Arkansas, in mid-2021. After they wrapped the project in mid-May, Kate took to Instagram to gush about Justin, who previously romanced “Going the Distance” co-star Drew Barrymore. “Holy moly @justinlong you are a truly spectacular / fun / funny / kind / rare / thoughtful / totally rad human being. On Jan. 1, Kanye West stepped out for dinner with model-actress Julia Fox in Miami. A source told TMZ, which published exclusive photos of the intimate dinner date, that the pair aren’t serious and that the rapper is simply enjoying single life amid his ongoing divorce from estranged wife Kim Kardashian. On Jan. 2, however, Kanye and Julia were seen together again: They dined with rapper Future at Makoto in Miami Beach. According to TMZ, they double dated with “Drink Champs” host N.O.R.E. and his wife, Neri Santiago, at the Carbone in Miami on Jan. 3. The following evening, they joined a group of friends for a performance of “Slave Play” on Broadway before dinner at the Carbone in New York City. They then headed back to his hotel in the same SUV. (It’s unclear if they spent the night together.) “Julia and Ye are dating. They both just got out of their former relationships, and they’ve helped each other recover immensely. They’re kind of kindred spirits, and it’s cool to watch,” a source told Page Six after the duo were seen together in two states in less than a week. Julia split from Peter Artemiev — with whom she shares a son — in late 2021.

Halle Berry got tongues wagging on Jan. 1 when she took to Instagram to share a slideshow of photos including a stunning shot of herself and her boyfriend, musician Van Hunt, kissing at what appeared to be the altar of a wedding chapel during a tropical holiday vacay. “Well…IT’S OFFICIAL!” she wrote in the caption, implying that they tied the knot. The following day — after several of her famous friends sent congratulatory messages on the social media platform — the Oscar winner returned to Instagram to set the record straight: “We were just having some New Year’s Day fun! … Thank you for the well wishes, though, it really touched our hearts! Now it’s OFFICIAL, the Internet is no longer undefeated,” she captioned a selfie with her beau, adding a hashtag for “January Fools’ Day.” Van, meanwhile, jokingly captioned a photo of himself clumsily plunging into the ocean, “Me after finding out I’m not really married to Halle Berry.” Late last year, he joked that they were already married after her son officiated their nuptials.

The recent rumors were true: On Dec. 28 — more than a decade after Maria Shriver first filed to divorce Arnold Schwarzenegger in 2011 following 25 years of marriage — the duo have officially ended their marriage in the eyes of the law. According to TMZ, “lack of motivation” and “a very complicated property settlement agreement” contributed to the drawn-out timeline. The former couple did not sign a prenup before they tied the knot in 1986, and according to TMZ’s sources, they basically split their $400 million in assets down the middle.

On Jan. 3, Tristan Thompson took to his Instagram Story to announce that a paternity test confirmed he’s the father of Maralee Nichols’ child. They conceived the baby boy in March during a fling amid the professional basketball player’s off-and-on relationship with Khloe Kardashian. After insisting that he plans to “take full responsibility” for his new son, he publicly apologized to the reality TV star, writing, “Khloe, you don’t deserve this. You don’t deserve the heartache and humiliation I have caused you. You don’t deserve the way I have treated you over the years. My actions certainly have not lined up with the way I view you. I have the utmost respect and love for you. Regardless of what you may think. Again, I am so incredibly sorry.” According to an Us Weekly source, “Tristan wants to make everything right with Khloe. He wants to win her back, but she will never take him back romantically after learning about his cheating. This was the final straw.” While Khloe has yet to comment on Tristan’s public apology, her ex-husband, Lamar Odom, chimed in on Facebook, writing, “I truly wish nothing but the best for [Khloe] and I’m hoping we can reconnect and talk one day as friends. She is a good person and deserves the world.” Lamar also regularly cheated on Khloe over the course of their relationship.

On Dec. 24, Page Six broke the news that Meghan King’s whirlwind romance with President Joe Biden’s nephew, Cuffe Biden Owens, had come to an end just two months after they tied the knot following a courtship of just three weeks. According to a source, the former “The Real Housewives of Orange County” star had “told friends they broke up.” On Dec. 27, she took to her Instagram Story to confirm that the report was true: “I am rattled. This situation is profoundly devastating. This is obviously not what I imagined when I made my vows — and I’m shocked and saddened by the way things turned out. I am moving forward with my [three] children as we privately process our pain and begin to let go of shattered dreams,” she wrote. The following day, E! News reported that, according to a source, the sudden split “had to do with distance” between the St. Louis-based former reality TV star and the Los Angeles-based attorney. “It was not a relationship rooted in that much practicality. She had hopes of being able to spend more time in California but the kids cannot just be moved,” said the source. On Dec. 29, however, Meghan told Page Six, “Cuffe lived with me. We didn’t have any distance. We lived together every day since the day we met. There was no [California-Missouri] distance. There was zero long distance whatsoever.” She declined to clarify what went wrong between them.

On Jan. 3, Ricki Lake took to Instagram to announce that she and Ross Burningham tied the knot on a cliff overlooking the ocean the previous day. “We did it! 1/2/22 Ross and I said I DO!” she captioned a slideshow of photos from the nuptials — during which she donned a yellow kaftan-style dress and stood on a stool so she could reach her new hubby’s height as she read her vows. The pair got engaged in early 2021 after less than a year of coupledom.

On Jan. 3, DailyMail.com broke the news that Donald Trump Jr. and Kimberly Guilfoyle have been secretly engaged for a year: Don Jr. reportedly proposed to the former Fox News personality on New Year’s Eve (his birthday) in 2020. “They’ve kept it private for the past year as they settled into life in Florida after moving from New York,” said a source of the couple of about four years, calling the engagement “an open secret.”

“The Talk” co-host Amanda Kloots and “The Bachelorette” alum Michael Allio — who dropped out of Katie Thurston’s season as it neared its conclusion in the summer of 2021 — sparked romance rumors when she took to Instagram on Dec. 27 to share a photo from a dinner date they shared at a restaurant in Canton, Ohio, over the holidays. “Finally met this guy in person after being Instagram friends for a year!! Lots of fried food, drinks, great chats and laughs!” she wrote in the caption. Michael added, “Just two kids from Akron,” when he shared the cozy-looking snap on his Instagram Story. A few days later, Amanda explained to Us Weekly how she and the reality star connected: “People in our lives kept telling us both that we should meet based on how much we have in common. So we eventually started connecting over social media. When you are a widow and single parent, it is so wonderful to meet people that are in your same boat. It makes you feel less alone,” she said. (The blonde beauty lost her second husband, Nick Cordero, in July 2020 due to complications from COVID-19, while Michael lost his wife, Laura, in 2019 following a battle with breast cancer. They’re each raising young sons as single parents now.) Amanda went on to describe their dinner date as “so nice” and added that it felt like they’d “been friends for years.” Said the former Rockette, “We could have chatted for days. There is an immediate honesty and ease when you’ve been through trauma like we have.” For now they’re just friends, though. “We are both from Ohio, have little boys and [have] been through a very hard time in life. We have each other’s back,” Amanda said. She concluded by expressing her interest in falling in love again: “I would love to have some love back in my life,” she said, adding that she’s even open to looking for love on the “Bachelor” franchise. “I’ve learned to never say never in life,” said the former “Dancing With the Stars” contestant.

On the Dec. 24 episode of FOX Soul’s “Hollywood Unlocked With Jason Lee Uncensored,” Tiffany Haddish said she was displeased with Common’s public comments about their recent split. (He called the breakup “mutual” and said their busy schedules were to blame.) “I was very disappointed. I was like, ‘Oh, okay, cause that’s not what you told me, but OK,'” she revealed. So what went wrong between them? “He might be the type of person that never really settles with somebody — maybe he’s like a bee going from flower to flower to flower. I don’t know. I wish him nothing but joy and happiness, you know. He will always be cool,” she said, noting that the breakup paves the way for “new opportunities” for her. She still misses the multi-hyphenate, though: “I miss him from time to time, but that’s with any intimate relationship that you might have, you miss them. But I’m fine with it. It’s cool,” she said.

TMZ reported on Dec. 28 that Dr. Dre and Nicole Young officially settled their extremely contentious divorce by agreeing to a division of assets that sees the music mogul forking over $100 million to his ex. He’s reportedly “delighted” by the terms: According to the webloid, he’s walking away from the marriage with seven properties (a home in Malibu, two homes in Calabasas and four other homes in the Los Angeles area including a $100 million Brentwood estate), six of 10 cars, “full rights to his master recordings, trademarks and interests in various partnerships and trusts,” plus their stock in Apple including the proceeds from the sale of his Beats by Dre brand to the tech company. Nicole, meanwhile, will hold onto four vehicles and her jewelry, plus cash and bank accounts she maintained during the marriage. She’s responsible for paying her own legal fees — which “amount to millions of dollars,” according to TMZ’s estimate — and she will not receive spousal support from Dre, per the terms of their agreement. Source close to the former couple told TMZ that if Nicole had settled sooner, she likely would’ve scored a significantly larger payday from her ex.

On Dec. 30, Jack Osbourne took to Instagram to announce that he and Aree Gearhart are engaged after more than two years of coupledom. “Today I asked the most beautiful and loving woman I’ve ever met to marry me. She said yes!! Life is a series of doors and I’m so excited to walk through this one with her. She’s truly a magical being with a heart bigger than anything I could have imagined. Her step-mom skills make my heart so full. I couldn’t be happier than I am right now,” the former reality TV star — who shares three daughters with his ex-wife, Lisa Stelly — captioned a selfie with Aree and her new engagement ring on full display. The bride-to-be, meanwhile, captioned the same snap, “Today my best friend asked me to marry him in a magical winter wonderland. I’ll love you forever and then some @jackosbourne. My soulmate, my adventure partner, my protector. I’m ready for forever with you and our tribe.”

Sign me UP. Celebrating Christmas a whole fiancée!!! The most thoughtful, creative, positive, handsome, strong, loving, uplifting human being asked me to marry him. So obviously I said YESSS!!! Thank you for the most epic birthday surprise ever. And for flying out my mom, your mom, and both of our best friends to share in that incredible moment with us. You are one of one,” the Grammy-nominated former child star captioned a slideshow of photos depicting the proposal.

On Jan. 3, People magazine confirmed fans’ recent suspicions that Bachelor Nation’s Blake Horstmann is dating “Love Is Blind” alum Giannina Gibelli. “They’re taking things slow. But [they] seem really happy together,” said a source. The duo sparked romance rumors when they took to social media to share several photos and videos from what appeared to be similar locations. (See some examples here.) Blake came in second while competing for Becca Kufrin’s heart on season 14 of “The Bachelorette” in 2018. He then made headlines for romancing fellow Bachelor Nation stars Caelynn Miller-Keyes, Kristina Schulman and Hannah Godwin in the months leading up to shooting the sixth season of “Bachelor in Paradise” in 2019. Giannina, meanwhile, split from “Love Is Blind” co-star Damian Powers in mid-2021.

On New Year’s Eve, comedian Joe Gatto took to Instagram to announce that he’s leaving “Impractical Jokers” due to “some issues in my personal life.” He then revealed that he and his wife of nearly a decade, Bessy Gatto, “have decided to amicably part ways.” Explained the funnyman, “So now I need to focus on being the best father and co-parent to our two incredible kids.” Bessy, meanwhile, addressed the breakup on her own Instagram, writing in part, “With love and respect, we have decided to separate. Although we will no longer be a couple, we will always be a family to our beautiful kids and we look forward to co-parenting together.”

Halle Bailey celebrated the New Year by sparking rumors that she and rapper DDG (real name: Darryl Dwayne Granberry Jr.) are an item: On Jan. 1, the duo were spied looking cozy while taking in a performance of Usher’s Las Vegas residency show together. A Dec. 27 TikTok video unpacked the other evidence they’re a couple: Photos and videos show they spent Christmas together with his family, and they happened to be at the same beach in Mexico in early December when DDG headed south of the border with his family to celebrate his mother’s birthday.

On Jan. 5, Us Weekly broke the news that, according to a source, Chanel Iman and Sterling Shepard are “getting divorced.” Said the source, “They are going to try and remain civil and friendly towards each other.” The professional football player quietly filed for divorce in June 2021. He and the Victoria’s Secret model tied the knot in 2018 and later welcomed two daughters.

On Dec. 28, HGTV star Sabrina Soto took to Instagram to announce that she’s engaged to chef Dean Sheremet, who was previously married to LeAnn Rimes. “I said absolutely,” the bride-to-be captioned a slideshow of photos showing off her new engagement ring on the beach at Carmel-by-the-Sea in California. Dean captioned the same pics, “Happy birthday SABRINA! I can’t wait to continue building our beautiful family. Atlas and I are lucky to have you. (She said absolutely).” He shares son Atlas with his ex-fiancée, filmmaker Vanessa Black, and he was also previously married to photographer Sarah Silver. Sabrina, meanwhile, has a daughter from a previous relationship. It’s unclear when they called it quits and when she and Dean became an item.

On Dec. 26, Suni Lee took to Instagram to reveal she has a boyfriend: USC college football player Jaylin Smith. The Olympic gold medalist — who placed fifth on the 30th season of “Dancing With the Stars” in late 2021 — used a simple heart emoji to caption two photos of them looking cozy together. It’s unclear how long they’ve been an item.

On Dec. 29, “The Help” and “Fruitvale Station” actress Ahna O’Reilly revealed on Instagram that she secretly married TV producer Dave Andron in December 2020. “Married favorite person a year ago. On Dec. 23, Vicki Gunvalson’s ex-fiancé, Steve Lodge, took to Instagram to officially debut his girlfriend of a few months: 37-year-old Orange County-based third-grade teacher Janis Carlson. On Jan. 3, the 63-year-old aspiring politician released a statement announcing they’re engaged: “I did ask Janis on December 20th if she would become Mrs. Steve Chavez Lodge, and she happily agreed. We will be married in April 2022. We are both very excited, incredibly happy, totally in love and look forward to our life together,” he said. In mid-October — a few weeks after Vicki confirmed that she and Steve had called it quits — the “Real Housewives of Orange County” alum accused him of cheating on her with his new love. She didn’t hold her tongue in the wake of his engagement news…

During an interview with E! News that debuted online on Jan. 4, Vicki Gunvalson said of her newly engaged ex-fiancé, Steve Lodge, “Only a narcissist would move out of my home in September and be engaged in December. At this point I can only thank God for tearing me away from the lies, the mind games, manipulations, being used, and I am finally set free to heal. … It’s important to remember that I’m only mourning the person I thought he was, not the cruel manipulator he really is, and that is what gives me peace. I now see this as a blessing because if he did this now, God only knows what he would’ve done years down the line if I would’ve stayed with him. … I’m not an evil person so I won’t wish him anything bad, I can only wish for him what he deserves in life… whatever that may be.” Steve fired back to E! that his ex’s perspective “is usually skewed.” He then alleged that they actually split in late 2020 — much earlier than previously believed, though there were reports at the time that their romance was on the rocks. “I was very clear with Vicki in December of 2020. I told her in writing and verbally many times that I did NOT want to be in a romantic relationship with her anymore and ended it. We have not been in an intimate relationship since September of 2020 and that was few and far in between,” he said.

Meanwhile, Vicki Gunvalson’s son-in-law, Ryan Culberson, hinted on his Instagram Story on Dec. 26 that the former reality star is seeing someone new: He shared a candid snap of Vicki chatting with a mystery man while out for dinner. “Date chaperone,” he scrawled across the photo. She’s yet to addressed the apparent date night.

Another “Real Housewives” ex is also newly engaged… Luann de Lesseps’ ex-husband, Tom D’Agostino, got engaged to his girlfriend of three years, interior and clothing designer Danielle Rollins, at a party in Palm Beach, Florida, on New Year’s Eve — what would’ve been his fifth wedding anniversary with the “Real Housewives of New York City” star. Luann and Tom split in the summer of 2017 following less than a year of marriage.

On the Jan. 5 episode of Us Weekly’s “Getting Real with the Housewives” podcast, “The Real Housewives of Orange County” newbie Noella Bergener revealed that she’s seeing someone new amid her messy split from estranged husband James Berenger. “There’s somebody that I have known for years. He knew me married and knew my husband. That’s not weird at all, but we just have a lot of love and respect for each other,” she said. “He was one of those that just constantly checked in on me. Like, the moment James left, just like, ‘How are you? Did you need anything? Do the kids need anything?'” Their relationship took a turn about a month ago. “It’s just slow. It’s very, very fresh. So, who knows. At the end of the day, I have an amazing friend, but right now, we’re friends who kiss,” she said. She added to Us Weekly of her ongoing divorce, “At this point, we have a settlement, we both have ironed out all the details, like, it’s ready to go, we just need to sign. I’m ready to sign and he’s just not doing it, so here we are. I’m hoping that eventually, maybe doing things like this, it will get through to him. Let’s just focus on co-parenting; let’s just finish this so we could just be done and put this in our rearview and just be.”

According to People magazine, ABC News chief medical correspondent Dr. Jennifer Ashton got engaged to her boyfriend of a year — TV producer Tom Werner, who’s nearly two decades her senior — on New Year’s Eve as they waited for a cab ride to dinner at The Fulton by Jean-Georges, where they had their first date. “From the moment they met they were soulmates,” said a source, adding that the pair hope to tie the knot later this year. “Even if it was just the two of them [at the wedding] it wouldn’t matter. They are so in love.” On Jan. 3, the doctor, author and TV personality took to Instagram to share a photo with her new fiancé: “I said YES! to Tom Werner,” she wrote in the caption.

On Dec. 31, The Sun reported that basketball star Ben Simmons — who previously romanced Kendall Jenner for about a year in 2018 and 2019 — is engaged to British TV and radio host Maya Jama following a courtship of around seven months. He reportedly popped the question in New Jersey over the holidays with a ring purchased from Jewelers’ Row in Philadelphia, where he’s signed to the 76ers. “Ben adores Maya and has fallen head over heels for her,” said a source, noting that “they’re both thrilled” to take their relationship to the next level. “Ben fell for Maya almost immediately and was absolutely taken by her sheer beauty. He tells friends he loves the fact that she has her own career and he’s smitten by her British accent,” added the insider.

In the Winter 2022 issue of Jonathan Scott and Drew Scott’s Drew + Jonathan Reveal magazine, which hits newsstands on Jan. 7, Jonathan reveals that he and his girlfriend of more than two years, Zooey Deschanel, secretly bought their first property together — a 1938 Georgian-style home in the Los Angeles area — in June 2020 less than a year into their relationship. In an excerpt that debuted online on Dec. 27, the “Property Brothers” star writes that their “dream home” became “the largest residential renovation” of his career. “As a couple undertaking a massive renovation project, if the most you’re disagreeing on is sink placement and recessed lighting, you’re probably doing well,” he writes, adding that he hopes the home will turn out “as close to [Zooey’s] vision as possible” because he knows that “like her, it will be beautiful, eclectic and wonderfully unique.” He also gushes that when he first met the “New Girl” star, “she had a bounce in her step and an energy about her that made me immediately take notice.” Writes Jonathan, “Eight months into our relationship, I already knew Zooey was the yin to my yang, the PB to my J. We were on parallel paths toward the happiness we’d been seeking our whole lives.”

In other cohabitation news… On Jan. 4, multiple media outlets reported that Colton Underwood and his boyfriend of less than a year, Jordan C. Brown, took a major step forward in their relationship: In December, they dropped $3 million on a four-bedroom home in the Los Angeles area.

On Dec. 29, Vanessa Hudgens took to Instagram to mark her first anniversary with boyfriend Cole Tucker. “1 year down @cotuck love you,” she captioned a candid snap with the professional baseball player. The pair were first linked in late November 2020 — a month before they made things official.

During an interview with Haute Living that debuted online on Dec. 28, Justin Hartley praised his third wife, Sofia Pernas, while inadvertently shading his first two wives: Lindsay Korman and Chrishell Stause. “We got married in March, and we are so happy!” he gushed. “It’s incredible when you’re not forcing things. It doesn’t have to be that hard. You just meet the right person and you just go, ‘Oh, this is amazing. It’s just so wonderful!’ You’re so attracted and so attached to this person. You just love this person so much. Even though we’ve only been married a few months, it’s hard to remember what it was like without her. When I re-met her, I just knew. It’s so interesting about the human heart and human mind. It’s not a codependency; I’m just at peace with myself. I feel loved and I feel appreciated. I know she feels the same way. We just have a really great relationship and a really terrific family. It’s healthy and it’s wonderful. … Everything is easier with her in my life. I also feel like I’m better at stuff. I learn from her. She speaks five languages. She’s brilliant, she’s incredible, she’s fun to look at. Everything about her is amazing — she’s just hilarious. She inspires me to want to be a better man, like Jack Nicholson said in ‘As Good as It Gets.’ I want to rise to the occasion because she’s so great. She does make me want to be a better person, and [this kind of love] certainly does complete me.” Justin and Sofia first connected on the set of “The Young and the Restless” in 2015 while he was in a relationship with Chrishell, whom he married in 2017. “We didn’t work together that closely, and we didn’t work together that long. I knew that she was very kind and very nice. I liked being around her. But I was in a different place in my life. I wasn’t available. Timing has a lot to do with that. I’m very lucky to not only have found ‘the one,’ but I found her when she was available and the timing was right,” he said, adding that he’s now “happier than I’ve ever been” before. “I’m fulfilled in so many ways,” he said. “I’ve met my life partner. I’ve got a really great imagination, but I could not have imagined someone like this. She’s off the charts.”

On Jan. 5, Us Weekly broke the news that Larsa Pippen and Scottie Pippen finalized their divorce on Dec. 15 — more than three years after they filed to legally end their marriage of more than two decades for the second time. (The basketball star first filed for divorce back in 2016, though they briefly reconciled.) An attorney in their divorce case told Us Weekly in a statement, “I can confirm that Scottie and Larsa Pippen are now divorced. … All issues were resolved amicably. The parties are now focusing successfully co-parenting their remaining minor children.”
