Meghan Markle's first Christmas with the royal family in 2017 was apparently a huge hit. According to the book Finding Freedom, the Duchess brought a gag gift for her soon to be brother-in-law, and the royals loved it.
Journalists Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durand explain that gift-giving is like "an audition like no other, and [Meghan] wanted to impress her future royal relatives.”
They continued, “To that end, Meghan's biggest challenge was finding the perfect novelty gifts to amuse her new extended family. At least one of her gifts was a huge hit—a spoon for William that had 'cereal killer' embossed on the shallow bowl end of the utensil.”
Interestingly, this isn't the first gag the royal gift exchange has seen. Apparently one year, Kate Middleton gave Prince Harry a “Grow Your Own Girlfriend” kit.
The gift exchange, which typically takes place on Christmas Eve, will not be happening this year. According to a report from People, the family has already sent each other gifts and will be spending the holiday apart because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
