Former The One Show host Matt Baker took to Instagram yesterday to share a photo update as he made last minute preparations for this year’s fund-raising event. Despite leaving The One Show earlier this year, Matt has returned to take part in their annual Children In Need Rickshaw Challenge, an event he has been part of for the past nine years.

Father-of-two Matt was seen loading his car up with bikes and all the necessary equipment, including an obligatory Pudsey bear, before making his way to the Goodwood Estate.

The event will look a little bit different this year because of the coronavirus pandemic, and will see Matt and the children cycle around the West Sussex estate, which is home to famous motorsport event the Goodwoood Revival and the Glorious Goodwood horse racing festival.

The team will cover the same distance – 332 miles – as the very first Rickshaw Challenge, which went from Edinburgh to London.

“All packed for Rickshaw @bbccin @bbctheoneshow,” Matt wrote online, in view of his 227,000 followers as 1990s track Here we Go Again by Stakka Bo played.

Last month, Matt surprised The One Show viewers when he announced that he would be returning for the 10th anniversary event.

“Back for number 10,” the 42-year-old wrote online the following day.

Sharing a bit more information, he continued: “We are going loopy around Goodwood estate using the track, the racecourse and aerodrome hoping to cover the mileage of Edinburgh to London in homage of Rickshaw 1.”

He went on to say that in order to make the event “as safe as we can for everyone involved”, spectators are not allowed to cheer on the team this year as they normally would.

Matt and his team of six young people will kick off their eight-day challenge today.

Footage will be shown on The One Show each day as they make their way across different terrains on the estate.

Children In Need will air on November 13, at 7pm on BBC One.
