John Whaite, 32, has taken to Instagram to wish fellow Strictly Come Dancing dancer AJ Odudu a speedy recovery. The baker posted a story to his fans yesterday after AJ shared the news with her own followers.

AJ was the latest contestant to reveal a serious medical injury ahead of this weekend’s final.

She is one of the three finalists in the show hoping to win the Glitterball trophy but her ability to compete is now a matter of contention.

Her announcement comes after both Tilly Ramsay and Robert Webb had to also pull out of performing a group routine on the night.

An Instagram post by the dancer revealed she suffered an ankle injury ahead of the final.

The star said that “a repeated traumatic impact injury” to her right ankle has affected her ability to perform well during the rehearsal process.

This comes ahead of the finals which will take place on December 19.

“I can’t pinpoint a moment it actually happened during training but the pain came on suddenly on Monday night,” she wrote.

“The pain was so acute that I projectile vomited and currently I can’t put any weight on my right foot without agonising discomfort.

“Because I’m unable to move without crutches, we haven’t been nor will be able to rehearse properly ahead of the live final. To say I’m devastated would be a huge understatement and I am gutted.”

Even though AJ may have a tough time, she has shown determination by promising fans she will not back out of the competition.

“I’m surrounded by a fantastic medical team who are trying their best to get me back on my feet PLUS, I have the most incredible partner [Kai Widdrington] who is carrying me emotionally and physically (literally).

“Thanks for all your messages. I sincerely hope it will be all right on the night,” she added.

The amateur dancer and presenter posted the photo and caption out to her 197,000 followers.

At a Strictly press conference, AJ revealed yesterday the extent of the damage to her foot.

She said: “There is ligament damage to my foot.

“I’ve hurt the ligament in the arch of my foot and I can’t put any weight on my foot at all.”

AJ went on: “We have missed a lot of training because I can’t stand up. I’m on crutches and I’m doing everything that I can to be there on Saturday night.”

The BBC contestant said that she felt “frustrated” and “upset”.

She remarked: “You need to practise in order to give it everything [on Saturday].

“At this moment in time, I’m very frustrated and upset.

“But our main focus is my foot and hoping we can make it on Saturday.”
