On Saturday, Nov. 7, 2020, many news outlets called the election for President-elect Joe Biden, saying that he officially beat President Donald Trump after a tense week of ballot counting following a highly contentious election season. People reacted in different ways, from the president himself refusing to concede the election until after his team waged a legal battle, to celebrities openly celebrating on social media. Surprisingly, despite having a third-party candidate in the family, the Kardashian-Jenners reacted to the news with celebratory tweets. Even after supposedly urging people to vote for Kim Kardashian’s husband, Kanye West.
West announced his candidacy in the summer of 2020, and despite only being on the ballot in 12 states, managed to garner around 60,000 votes, per Vulture. He had likely expected more votes, since the outlet reported that he tweeted a now-deleted pic of the electoral map on Nov. 3, 2020 with the caption, “Welp.” He later retweeted the pic with the more optimistic caption of “KANYE 2024.” Still, the rest of his family seemed to have been rooting for someone else entirely. And you thought your family’s Thanksgiving 2020 was going to be tense, right?
Kim Kardashian tweeted a lot after hearing about Biden's projected win
When Kanye West announced his run for president, Kim Kardashian seemingly supported her husband, tweeting about his mental health issues and called for compassion. She also tweeted on Election Day, “I VOTED!!!! Did you?!?! If you are in line when the hours of operation close at the polls, they are required to stay open and allow you to vote, so do not get out of line.”
Fans clamored to know who she voted for, per Insider, though she stayed mum until after the election was called in President-elect Joe Biden’s favor. Then, she tweeted a number of times. Once, putting red, white, and blue hearts above a retweet of Biden’s statement after winning. And then, another series of patriotic hearts above the reportedly soon-to-be vice president, Kamala Harris’ video of her calling Biden to tell him that he was going to be president.
Kardashian also tweeted a pic of Harris and Biden together, and then later, a picture of her and West, looking as glam as ever. It’s likely that the two aren’t bickering about ballot counts, judging by her tweets.
All of the Kardashian-Jenner sisters seemed to support Joe Biden
Kim Kardashian wasn’t the only person in her family who showed support for Joe Biden and Kamala Harris after their projected 2020 election win. Kourtney Kardashian also retweeted Harris’ video of her calling Biden to tell him about the win and wrote “joyful” with a little blue heart. Khloé Kardashian also tweeted writing, “OMG I want to cry tears of joy!!!! Bravo!!!” She added afterwards, “great morning!” to her Twitter timeline, so it seems she wasn’t counting on a Birthday Party win.
In addition to those tweets, Kendall Jenner also tweeted her supposed approval of Biden’s win. She wrote, “i’m emotional, relieved, and filled with joy this morning!!!” Her sister, Kylie Jenner, was a little less literal and merely posted a video that the Alexander Wang Instagram account posted to her Stories, a video of Kamala celebrating with the caption, “That feeling when you just made HISTORY!”
All of the sisters seemed overjoyed that even if Kanye West didn’t win the election, President Donald Trump had not been reelected to office. Kris Jenner did not post anything political over the course of the entire election.
Kanye West thinks God decides the election
Given their response to Joe Biden’s win over Donald Trump, Kim Kardashian likely had a lot of conversations with her husband, Kanye West. Before his bid in 12 states, West had supported Trump, going as far to say, per an interview with Forbes, “Trump is the closest president we’ve had in years to allowing God to still be part of the conversation.” Still, by summer 2020, he had hung up his MAGA hat for good, saying that his reasons for donning the red cap initially was in the name of “a protest to the segregation of votes in the Black community.” He added, “Also, other than the fact that I like Trump hotels and the saxophones in the lobby.”
West is likely not waiting for any recount or lawsuits to decide the next president. He added in the same interview, “Let’s see if the [presidential] appointing is at 2020 or if it’s 2024 —because God appoints the president. If I win in 2020 then it was God’s appointment. If I win in 2024 then that was God’s appointment.” Again, leading up to that point, it’s definitely going to be a weird time in the Kardashian-Jenner household.
