GMB releases Christmas ad starring mini Piers Morgan and Susanna Reid

Good Morning Britain takes inspiration from John Lewis as the show releases heart-warming Christmas ad starring mini Piers Morgan and Susanna Reid

Earlier this month, John Lewis dropped its festive advert, starring excitable and accident-prone dragon Edgar.

And on Monday, Good Morning Britain appeared to take inspiration from the department store as the programme released its own Christmas clip, featuring mini Piers Morgan and Susanna Reid.

Played by child actors Jack and Millie, the ad follows the story of the young lead presenter, who leaves his close pal devastated when he relocates to America with his family.

Heart-warming: On Monday, Good Morning Britain appeared to take inspiration from John Lewis as they released their own Christmas clip, featuring mini Piers Morgan and Susanna Reid

The clip begins with children playing football, while a mini-Piers sulks over being left out of the group.

Seated on a park bench, the boy’s spirits are lifted when he is joined by little Susanna, who maintains their typically jovial relationship by poking her tongue out at him.

Showing the extent of their friendship, the young girl helps her friend with his homework, just moments before Piers leaves her emotional by showing her his one-way ticket to the States.

Following weeks apart, Susanna wishes she’ll be able to reunite with companion for Christmas, and writes her desire on Santa’s list.

The brunette is over-the-moon as her request is granted, with the pair sharing a sweet hug after little Susanna shook her crystal ball.

The young pair were joined by the former BGT judge, 54, and the 2013 Strictly contestant, 48, on the ITV daytime programme, and later posed for a group snap.

Sharing the image to her social media accounts, ex-BBC presenter Susanna captioned the photo: ‘After our Christmas ad went viral, my mini-me Millie is @gmb this morning.

‘The next generation! Mini Piers and Mini Me – stars of our Christmas advert – warming up for taking over. Good luck Jack and Millie!’

Piers shared the identical image and wrote alongside: ‘The mini-mes…. Jack & Millie are the stars of @GMB‘s new weepy Christmas ad.’

A few weeks ago, John Lewis unveiled its highly-anticipated Christmas advert with Edgar – who lives in a freezing mythical village with his red-headed best friend Ava.

The pair are forced to quell his disastrous fire-breathing after it threatens to destroy the festive period for everyone as a giant Christmas tree is flamed, a snowman is destroyed and the local ice rink melts.

It marks the first time the department store has joined with sister brand Waitrose for a festive commercial.

After a mixed response to last year’s advert, which featured Elton John and charted his rise from childhood, the new ad seems to be a return to formula.
