Fern Britton posts about Valentine’s Day a week after announcing split from Phil Vickery

Fern Britton, 62, has shared a touching post marking Valentine’s Day, one week after she announced she has parted ways from her husband of 20 years Phil Vickery. The former BBC presenter took to social media to encourage a message of self-love amongst her 67,000 followers.

After briefly venting about the rush to get bags out in time for “recycling day”, she wrote: “Also on a jollier note HappyValentines Day! Love yourself and give yourself a little treat.”

The sweet message was met by a warm response from fans of the star, with many sharing the love, hailing her an “inspiration”. 

One user wrote: “Happy valentines day. To a very lovely lady and a total inspiration. Hope today isnt to hard for u. Take care xxx (sic).” 

Another encouraged: “You too. Treat you.”

A third added: “You too Fern u deserve it (sic).”

The post comes after Fern announced she and her celebrity chef partner Phil had gone their “separate ways.”

The pair tied the knot back in 2000 and are parents to daughter Winnie, 18.

The statement, shared on Twitter, read: “After more than 20 happy years together, Phil and I have decided to go our separate ways.

“We will always share a great friendship and our lovely children. We would appreciate it if our privacy is respected at this time.”

She concluded: “Thank you for your continued kindness and support.”

Phil shared an identical message on his social media pages.

Just a day later she returned to the platform to thank her legion of fans for their “overwhelming” support.

She told how the kind response had helped “more than you know”.

Fern wrote: “Hello. Thank you so much for all your kind messages.

“They are so appreciated. More than you know. The kindness of strangers is overwhelming. Xx.”

The author then added a string of kiss-face emojis and a heart for good measure.

Following the announcement, the duo were bombarded with support from their reel of celebrity friends.

BBC Breakfast host Steph McGovern sweetly wrote: “Sending lots of love xxx.”

Whilst broadcast Camilla Tominey added: “Lots of love to you both Fern and Phil x.”

The news came shortly after sources close to the pair claimed they had battled through periods where they “weren’t even speaking”, thinking it was a “natural” part of marriage, according to the Daily Mirror.
