Throughout his career, Justin Bieber pretty much had everything he’s ever wanted.
From the millions of fans to the big houses and fast cars, everyone can agree that Bieber was one of the most successful musicians of his generation.
While many of us were certain Justin Bieber was content with his lavish lifestyle and continuous success, it turns out that wasn’t the case.
In a candid Instagram post, the singer opens up about his early days of fame and shared how his quick rise to the top negatively affected his life.
Bieber discussed the many “ups and downs” of being an entertainer
Achieving fame at a young age might seem like the ultimate dream to some, but for Justin Bieber, he had to learn the hard way that being famous in your early teens isn’t all that it’s cracked up to be.
Though the singer has had a very successful career as a chart-topping musical artist, reaching that level of fame so young lead him down a dark path later in life.
In a lengthy Instagram post shared on Septemeber 2, Bieber opened up about achieving fame at 13 and discussed how along that was the cause of the mental health struggles he faces today.
In his post, Bieber recalls always being reminded of how great he was and that made it hard for him to learn what it truly meant to be responsible.
“I went from a 13-year-old boy from a small town to being praised left and right by the world, with millions saying how much they loved me and how great I was,” he wrote. “You hear these things enough as a young boy and you actually start believing it.”
Bieber then said that his personal growth was stunted due to his fame, as he was never really able to develop skills beyond his music career.
With everything practically at the palm of his hands, Bieber admits in his post that he was relying on “heavy drugs” by age 19 and had “abused all of [his] relationships” by this time in his life.
“I became resentful… and angry,” he wrote. “I became distant to everyone who loved me, and I was hiding behind, a shell of a person that I had become. I felt like I could never turn it around.”
He eventually found solace by surrounding himself with positive people
After hitting his lowest point at the tender age of 20, Justin Bieber took a step back from the spotlight to reflect on his life choices.
Instead of continuing to maintain his fame, Bieber decided to focus on his mental health.
After seeking professional help for his depression, anxiety, and ADHD, Justin Bieber soon found himself becoming the man he’s always wanted to be.
The singer was also able to fix some of the relationships that had suffered because of his fame and even started new ones.
One relationship he is the most proud of is his marriage to wife Hailey Baldwin, who he credits to helping him move forward in life.
“Now I am navigating the best season of my life ‘MARRIAGE’ !! Which is an amazing, crazy, new responsibility,” he shared. “You learn patience, trust, commitment, kindness, humility, and all of the things it looks like to be a good man.”
While Justin Bieber might have a lot of regrets from his early days as a child star, he is now using those downfalls as a learning experience.
“All this to say even when the odds are against you, keep fighting. Jesus loves you,” Bieber concluded. “Be kind today, be bold today and love people today, not by your standards but by God’s perfect unfailing love.”
