In case you missed the amazing news last night, Britney Spears’ father Jamie Spears has been suspended from her conservatorship. L.A. County Superior Court Judge Brenda Penny issued the order, saying “I believe that the suspension is in the best interests of the conservatee. The current situation is untenable.”
Shortly after the news broke, Britney posted to Instagram to express how happy she was without directly referencing the conservatorship, saying, “On cloud 9 right now 🤩☁️✈️ !!!! First time flying a plane and first time in a prop plane ✈️ !!! Geez I was scared 😳 🙄 !!! Pssss bringing the ship 🛳 home, JL … Stay classy beautiful people !!!! New pics coming soon 📷😉✨ !!!!”
According to The Hollywood Reporter, John Zabel has been named Britney’s temporary conservator, and Judge Brenda Penny instructed Jamie to turn over all financial books and documents related to Britney’s estate to him. Of course, the aim is still to end Britney’s conservatorship entirely, and Judge Penny set a hearing for November 12 to discuss its termination. A separate hearing on December 13 will take on the huge fees of Britney’s former court-appointed attorney Samuel Ingham.
Britney’s conservatorship is currently the subject of several documentaries, including FX and Hulu’s Controlling Britney Spears, CNN’s Toxic: Britney Spears’ Battle for Freedom, and Netflix’s Britney vs Spears. The documentaries were made without Britney’s participation, and she doesn’t seem thrilled about them—saying on Instagram in part, “It’s really crazy guys … I watched a little bit of the last documentary and I must say I scratched my head a couple of times 🙄🤷🏼♀️ !!! I really try to disassociate myself from the drama !!! Number one … that’s the past !!! Number two … can the dialogue get any classier 🤷🏼♀️🤓😭 ??? Number three … wow they used the most beautiful footage of me in the world 😳 !!! What can I say .. the EFFORT on their part 👏🏼🙄 !!!”
